This is very possible. The Democrats will probably win by a landslide and the Republicans are more divided than ever. Just look at this poll:

It's hard to say how accurate it is, but Ron Paul is polling at 4,2% and he is not even in the race. Now that's a divided party. After an economic collapse, 4 years of Obama socialism and complete misery in the entire US, people will be more open than ever to actually try small government again.
