speaking as a conservative, i thought biden won. i mean ffs, she was sooooo bland. there were a few moments where she made good points, but for the most part the debates were just talking points.

I think the moderator was lol bad. Biden said "We support equal rights for gays, visits in hospital, taxes, prop rights, blahblah." Palin said nah no way. Gwen Ifill was like "so I guess you guys agree on the gay issue."

I think my conservative vote just went over to the left side.
President Palin would absolutely scare the shit out of me.
I need to see the final two Presidential debates to confirm, but I am now firmly planted in the undecided corner leaning toward Obama/Biden.
I guess I could always write in Ron Paul and waste my vote hoping to move the Republican party toward less restriction on my liberties, less spending, and solid fiscal policies.
Each election continues to be more deflating than the last.

I thought the moderator was also a huge pushover... not railing EITHER candidate for completely ignoring her questions and spewing whatever bullshit they so chose. Although I think Palin was far more guilty of delivering memorized stump speeches, and even admitted that she wasn't going to answer the questions the way the moderator wanted, Biden did as well....
And btw, how about some questinos that ACTUALLY get some answers....
"What promises have you made that you aren't going to be able to deliver on???"
"If your running mate dies, what are you going to do differently?"
Does anyone think these will actually achieve meaningful answers that can help Americans decide which of these people know their shit, and can successfully lead this country if it were necessary???

Palin also brought up a point last night, and I'd like to vent on it a bit...
If John McCain "knows how to win the war in Iraq" why the fuck doesn't he tell us, or tell the commander of operations, or tell big Dubya what we need to do? Either he is telling an outright lie OR he is withholding key details/ideas/strategy/tactics from our current governing officials and commanders. I hope for the sake of our troops it's really the former, and not the later.

Can you give me a few examples of when Biden dodged questions? I'm sure there were a few but I was so tilted from Palin's "Well, I'm not going to answer that because I want to talk about my opponent's ENERGY POLICY OMG RAWRRR OIL RUSSIA OMG"
Biden seemed to address and answer (maybe not at great detail) all questions.

im pretty sure this was just a badly worded way of saying that he know "what it takes" to win the war. and im sure he's put his viewpoints forward in congress and to W. I think more than anything this was just a way to say that Obama's plan of being out of Iraq after 16 months is not the most effective way, and McCain knows how to handle it better. Now if only she had taken that oportunity to explain what McCains stategy is ...

Palin did as good a job as she could. She could not answer most of the questions, she reverted back to the same lame duck talking points over and over, and attacked biden/obama but could not defend their ticket on anything biden brought up. But she did not go up there and meltdown like most were expecting, mostly because of the format and her obvious well rehearsed answers.

Palin far exceeded my expectations but that's b/c I thought she was special-needs after watching some of the Katie Couric interviews this week. Given my expectations, she basically hit a home run. The accent, the darn right's and the winking make me want to punch her in the face though. And there's no fucking way I'm going to risk a 1 in 6 chance of her becoming president by voting for McCain. I thought Biden played it conservatively, never attacking Palin, just McCain. He rambled too much and included too much detail, just like Obama did in the first debate, and it didn't come off that well. And bringing up his family tragedy to show that he empathizes with working-class single-mothers was a bit weird. But in my mind, he's the most qualified of all 4 candidates to be president.

I just think that both Biden and Obama had a tendency in these debates to obscure their main points by including too much detail. They should state their point, provide a detail or two, and then repeat their point. A stylistic criticism, not a substantive one. And of course I'd rather vote for someone who knows a lot of details about their policy positions than someone who keeps repeating the same talking points over and over.

Palin surprised a lot of people by not imploding. I think she did fine for the "I'm speaking to the heartland of America" angle, but she didn't really say anything. Biden certainly did better at staying on topic and getting down to specifics (though I think he got a little carried away with the McCain-bashing) and seeming less like a cheerleader reciting empty chants.
What I'm afraid of, however, is that most of America's voting middle class (Jesusland) will find her act charming and be swayed by it.

This ^^
For someone with zero national media stage experience, she held it together pretty damn well. However, "holding it together" in a staged event by itself doesn't really rank too high on the essential skills for odds-on possible president and commander in chief. She is charming, appears to have been okay as a governor of a relatively sparse state -- but is so obviously underpowered (brain power and background) that any potential of a Palin presidency scares the bejesus out of me. And she's no freakin' Ronald Reagan - despite the governor and limited national experience comparisons - 'cause California is damn near the world's 11th largest economy....
Bottom line... you can't run a f-in country off of index card talking points. Which is why I wish we'd dump these pre-scripted "you go, then I go" quasi-infomercials and replace them with something that's at least as intellectually demanding as a freakin' inter-collegiate squad debate. They're completely useless in their current format...
I think my Obama/Biden vote was sealed last night by the "No" to gay marriage head-spinner bombshell... Big ups to them having the balls to recognize that the governments responsibility ends at equal protection under the law and that this is a cultural not civil rights issue. One that won't be solved by the government sticking their nose even further into social issues. Be consistent - stay the f-k out of abortion, marriage, death with dignity, and all the other decisions that should be left solely to the individual and their own personal beliefs.... I'm sure they pissed off a chunk of their fringe on that one.
Oh... and can someone please explain WTF Palin's answer was to the same gay marriage question? Or was she answering a question from 20 minutes earlier......? I kinda lost track...
