Im hoping to cook my girlfriend a fancy meal Thursday, so I can get laid ldo.
I'm usually good at coming up with ideas but my brain isnt working worth a shit today, so hopefuly somebody else can come up with some good ideas. She is a vegetarian though, so no meat, although we have non-meat beef/chicken strips I can throw in or something of that sort.
Was hoping to do a salad and/or appetizer, main course, and dessert.
The grocery store around here isn't really fancy, so preferably no crazy exotic things I will never be able to find. Also, I'm fairly skilled in the kitchen, so I'm not too worried about it being hard to make or anything. But easy is always good.

stuffed butternut squash FTW:
lots of recipes on the net - Jamie Oliver does a really good one, if you can find it. serve with a nice bottle of white wine.
Its well tasty and its got "stuffed" in the title which should help with the getting laid........

Tofu parm sounds like a decent idea, especially since I have 2 dozen fresh picked tomatoes sitting on my counter...

Do vegetarians really taste very good? I'd think that someone that only ever ate vegetarians would be pretty gross.
If I'm gonna eat someone, I'd be pretty darn sure he ate lots of red meat, and drank lots of beer.

you can make your own tofu if you can source some unpasteurized soy milk. You just need to bring it to a boil and then tightly cover it. This will be more of a custard consistency, to get a firmer texture I believe you just need to press it somehow. The best way to do this at home would probably be the use of cheese cloth.

The single best vegetarian meal is always going to be pizza imo. Feta, roast capsicum, caramalised onions, baked beans, you cna put all kinds of wacky stuff on pizza and its still awesome. I love pizza

nice bump. i've been eating far less meat these days. A dish I invented sponteneously and been repeating ever since - stirfry with veg assortment like broccoli, zucchini, peppers, garlic whatever, some fried tofu cubes you can get at chinese supermarkets, and sauce made of doubanjiang Doubanjiang - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (spicy chinese bean paste), oyster sauce (ok, oyster sauce makes it non-vegetarian if you're goddamn anal about it) and some amount of alcoholic liquid like sake or chinese cooking wine, or even probably white wine would be fine. I thin the sauce out a bit with water, pour over the stuff once its' pretty much all cooked.
also a good arrabiata sauce with plenty of garlic.
or alio e olio e peperoncino
all fine meat-free dishes that i eat regularly

i mean i hate self-righteous vegetarians too. but who likes a self-righteous carnivore? shit guys i just eat whatever tastes good/makes me feel good/keeps me going. i don't eat balanced because people tell me to, in the end it's just the best kind of meal for my tastes and needs. and ok, factual evidence that eating steak every day makes you die younger is a turn off too imo.

I like vegetarians, more meat for us meat eaters. It's just I wouldn't accept a vegetarian girlfriend unless she cooks me meat. I want a bacon sandwich after a blow job goddamit.

Home made fresh pesto. Tastes absolutely nothing like the ready crap you find in the store.
Green pesto with (thin or regular) spaghetti pasta (blend together: garlic, parmigiano reggiano, roasted pine nuts, good olive oil, salt and tons of fresh basil). Serve with some more reggiano and be sure not to over cook your pasta as it completely ruins the dish. Don't trust the boiling time written on the package, taste it.
Red pesto (same as green, but add sun dried tomatoes and/or red bell peppers) with farfalle pasta, as cold salad. Cool the farfalle with running cold water before mixing with the pesto. The farfalle needs to taste very slightly raw in the middle when you take it off the stove or it will be over cooked. Garnish with reggiano, fresh basil, roasted almond slices, olive oil and fresh ground black pepper.
Good olive oil can be hard to find regardless of where in the world you live. It's definitely not enough that it's "extra vergine". I prefer laudemio from frescobaldi in florence, but il genio from montalbano in tuscany is also quite decent (and much cheaper).
If you're on a budget, then make the pesto with a (slightly) cheaper virgin oil and pecorino romano instead of reggiano. Garnish with the high quality stuff.
Vegetarians are fine in my book. I even tried it for a few months and thought it was refreshing. Can't say the same about vegans though.
