Brag: My father is paying for me to go to vegas for 4 days and 4 nights
Brag2: My Wife is going to use some of the money from a recent windfall of ours to help fund my trip
Beat: I have to pull my poker BR if I want to use the funds.
Beat: It looks like I'm only going to have $500 total for the days I'm there unless I can win a poker tournament between now and then.
Variance: I may end up getting points for this at work.
So I've got some questions for you guys.
Anyone know where I can find some of the daily tournaments at the casinos I hear so much about. I want to play poker, but I'm really only there to gamble a little bit. My dad's all sorts of rabid about going to a bunch of the shows (Peepshow, Blue Man Group Cirque De Soleil) So I'd like to find a cheaper tournament that he and I can play in, and I'll probably try to log at least a night at an NL table goofing off.
Although with 500 bucks if I play at 100nl that could be over in 15 minutes.
Do they have 50nl in casinos there?
Anywhere good to go? I've heard a lot about the Mirage poker room, I wanna see that.
Anyone gonna be in vegas the 6th thru the 10th of april? Get together, drink some beers, talk some poker?

Oh I probably am. Just not right away.
That was the straw that broke the camels back.

They don't have anything lower than $200NL tables in Vegas.
I'm guessing this is your first time to Vegas?
You'll love it.
Cheers!

First time to vegas over the age of 21.
Aack. Guess I'll just look into tourneys for while I'm there.

Just go to websites of the different casinos and look in the poker section about tournaments

200nl is the min on the strip but it plays like 10nl online maybe even lower. I would try to get yourself in that game if you possible can. Shortstack if you have to I would say. Most poker rooms run a daily tournament of some sort. I would check out ceasers, the wynn, bellagio, planet hollywood for these. I would guess they are usually in the 60 dollar buy in range though.

if 200 nl plays like 10nl I have a shot. But having a month of notice means 600 dollars in scratch is barely achievable.
Unless I can win a microtourney between now and then. lol

Gads... you guys think 600 is going to be enough if I'm conservative in Vegas?
Conservative? Vegas... fuck.

As long as the 600 is only for gambling and you don't have to pay for food/drinks with it you'll be fine. Just space it out so you can gamble all week if you want. Don't blow all your cash the first afternoon like I've done in the past.

If you have to, I'd take a shot at the ring games. If you run as good as you need to to cash in a donkament, you'll make plenty more at the cash tables.
Just buy-in short. I managed to make a little profit playing 200NL for a couple of weekends after a friend staked me with $50
You'll probably get bored after an hour anyway... 30/hands per hour SINGLE TABLE!

Awww I was in Vegas just two weeks ago. I didn't get a chance to gamble at all though. Couldn't find any poker tables at the strip clubs. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?!
|
OP: Beginner to Master
If I bet as a bluff, I should be thinking "am I getting better hands to fold? Is it likely that he will fold x% of the time to a y sized bet to make it +EV?". If I bet for value, I should be thinking "am I getting worst hands to call? Am I ahead of enough of his range that this is a good value bet?".

Oh I know.. But it's nice to shoot the shit with someone while you're folding. Always watching for that one idiot to fleece too. That's why live poker plays so much looser, someone sits for 4 hours and thinks "good god I haven't played a hand, I'm losing, must break even now!
I've put in 12 straight hours at a table of 3/6 LIMIT.

allvegaspoker.com has a lot of good info on tournaments.
Sahara has a decent structured tournament 3 times daily for aroune $65(including 1 add-on). Most of the tournaments in that range play like a turbo.
Cash games to shortstack you might try the Sahara and Imperial Palace, MGM, maybe Bill's. Probably some of the softest NL tables in Vegas.
