How do you define utility though? Most classical utilitarianists would say that the concept of utility refers to some sense of pleasure or happiness which doesnt always translate to a sense of frugality. Now, Im not trying to be a huge nit by questioning your use of the term utilitarianism, but Im moreso doing it to make a point/ask a question.
If spending in this manner actively _makes_ you happy [not just keeps you content], then keep doing that. However, it seems like you have fallen into the exactly opposite trap of many of the wealthy; you save money, just for the sake of saving it.
Just let loose a little bit next time you go to the bar. Instead of chugging 5 o'clock in the parking lot, go and get your friends a round of drinks in the bar and then have some yourself. Worry about having fun first, and money second. Im obviously not saying to spend more than you can afford, but just try being a little more care free. Even if you dont think itll make a difference, I bet you will be happier [not saying you arent happy now] after making that change and your "utility" will increase.
And yes, I am a huge nit for making a long post in response to this.

Lol I was thinking the exact same thing.
BTW I think people interpretted what I was saying as if you get any random girl shitty drunk with drinks you've bought her you'll have sex with her. Obviously it's not like that, and if it were, that aint right. There's more variables to it than that, but the buying a drink is the one must.

This got me wondering, is the concept of "shouts" done in any way in the US?
Over here if you're at a bar with your mates it's pretty much a given that each round is bought by a different person of the group each time for the night, when it's their "shout". Leads to some interesting dynamics if people start adjusting their drink choices depending on whose shout it is or if people constantly skip out on their shout etc.
Never really heard of the concept mentioned in any drinking threads/etc from US forums and this comment from Mix piqued my curiosity.

asking a girl to buy you a drink works because it's role reversal, and it demonstrates you have balls and don't put girls on a pedestal. instead of the girl thinking "oh, another free drink, nice," she's now thinking "who the hell is this guy getting me to buy him a drink?"
even if it's in the negative, it's still better than the neutral reaction.
anyways, back on topic, mixchange, that's not strange. some of the richest people in the world are very frugal. warren buffet comes to mind.
