^^ 10min 1st part of a cbc documentary on this legal battle .

http://www.cannabisculture.com/noextradition/
^^ the defense website chronicling the legal battle .

i am curious to know what the canadians amongst us think about this . do you think the USofA has the *right* to take a canadian citizen out of canada and bring them to the US for trial ?

i , as an american , think this is BS . where i live marijuana is rather prevalent . its almost a part of our culture . i do not smoke and havent for over a year now (yea .. whoop-di-doo) , but i am very sympathetic to the rights of those who do .

thoughts ?
hoozay !!! i beated real life !1!!

It was a very interesting article. TNX

My thoughts: Its bullshit what happened to him. Lets hope Canada doesn't bend over and extradite him.

The US government extends its bully's grip again. Poor Marc Emery has been assigned posterchild status.

i didnt watch the whole thing, but i get the jist of it. i think that the war on drugs is stupid in the first place, but it still is the law. and the u.s. is only allowed to do this with canadas permission. it doesnt surprise me one bit, since the u.s. and canada are allies.

i think this boils down to people getting angry at the war on drugs. i also think it sucks for marc emery, and life inprisonment is absurd, but i dont feel like, "oh poor marc emery, hes a victim of the u.s. being a bully." that seems like nonsense to me. people also think mumia is a victim of the u.s.

Didn't have time to look at the links but, as I recall, he's being charged for selling seeds to US customers. He was originally facing a potential life sentence which is not a reasonable punishment for the crime, so no, we shouldn't extradite him if that's what he faces, just like we shouldn't extradite murderers if they face the death penalty in the US. I understand though that he has agreed to a plea bargain of 5 years in prison, to be served in the US and Canada, which is fine imo.

i retract comparing him to mumia, because im way more sympathetic for a pot dealer than a cop killer.

I've expressed my views on this subject on FTR before, so I'm not going to debate it again. Suffice to say that I believe it's wrong period, under any and all circumstances, and that Americans should catch up with the rest of the civilized world and abolish it. /discussion
