Garnett is getting a lot older, and had not been with the team for the past 2-3 years. Jerry Calangelo (sp?) was all about team chemistry, so they were hoping to build a team that would get along with each other.

Garnett would be a great international player, however, you have to think he'd be a little less effective because of the shape of the lane. It's not a rectangle like in the NBA, so all low post plays start further from the basket. However, Garnett is an intense, smart, team-player and would have been an upgrade over Boozer or DHoward. Just look at how effective Chris Bosh was, and they're built from the same mold.

It was said that Pierce wore out his welcome with a bad attitude in the last intl basketball thing, not too sure and I like Pierce.

Also the players have to commit to playing and practicing and all that and not eveyone wants to play.

It's obvious Team USA felt they did not have the players to win a half-court game against the Europeans. Because of this they went for youth and speed. Dhoward and Bosh get up and down the court easily while, Boozer (surprise surprise 0 minutes of real playing time in last 2 games) does not as easily.

If you want the best team USA could put on the floor for an NBA game it'd be:

Garnett
Duncan
CP3
Michael Redd
Lebron James

They' would have some trouble guarding the perimeter, but they'd be dominant in half-court offense.

If you want to make it a track meet because basketball fundamentals are dead in the USA and even Coach K couldn't get this team to move the ball in the half-court then your team would be:

Dhoward/Amare
Lebron
Melo/Dwade
Kobe
JKidd/CP3

Jason Kidd should not have been on that team, he was terrible and is basically not effective anymore. Coach K also did NOT do a very good job from what I saw.
