so, im in my third semester at university studying business. I don't like my classes, i find it painful to read the material. I don't put forth enough effort to do well. I just squeak by. Last semester I dropped managerial accounting, and I just bombed the first 50% midterm pretty badly. Dropping or failing a course 3 times gets you kicked out of the program, no questions asked. Same with finance. ITs my first time taking it, midterm is thrusday, but i have another midterm tommorow, so really my studying won't be done until the night before.

and im sure i won't get much done. I will probably get this sick feeling in my stomach. Regret being such a lazy student. Wonder why im even in this fucking program. Hating life right now. I've got menail work experience, I don't even know what id want to do if i graduated with this degree.

Sounds like some pretty convincing arguments for not taking this program.

the only person that's responsible for motivating yourself is you.

That having been said, do what you wanna do, and if you can't get interested in the classes, consider a switch to something you love.

If I had it to do all over again, I'd take anthropology classes.
The older I get, the more I start wondering; Just what in the hell is going on here?

lol @ will

take your time and explore different things, people rush way too much in college. If your college is too expensive to take your time, transfer. I knew a guy who dropped out at the end of his 5th year after trying to stick with computer science even though he knew he hated it after about year 2, in the long run taking your time will save you time and make you happy.

I also knew another guy who was in his 8th year before he finally gave up - 4 years of flunking engineering classes and then 4 years of almost passing with a food service mgmt (lol) degree. in the end it was the 8 years of drinking and whoring that did him in, failed all of his classes last quarter, fiance (in grad school) dumped him, good times.

PS drugs are actually a good choice for a perspective change although slippery slope yadda

You sound like you think other people study sometime other than the night before a midterm. That simply isn't the case...

I would talk your advisor's see if they can set you on a better track to something you could care more about. And shit if you are mopey all the time talk to a shrink try to figure out whats up.

I was in the same situation doing bad in school and no direction. I still am not sure what I want to do with my life and with a few or two semester left till I graduate is a BS in Biology is kind of scary, but now I am doing a ton better in all my classes and getting my GPA up I feel better about not knowing.

At this point I think I might do something like Teach for America (teach in an impoverished area for 2 years) and then see if I want to be a teacher. If not maybe apply for grad schools then.

i think business is too singular, too competitive. I think the business world will keep growing more and more competitve and even if i could keep up now, could i keep up in the real world?

im, in general, a fairly lazy dude. However, I do tend to like to work with my hands. I find when I can make something that I can take pride in, i am happiest..

I think in my first semester, when i shipped like $18,000 into my bank or something.. I wasn't really happy. If 18k at 18 years old doesn't get me all excited, then why would i ever get into business...

i think my biggest fear would be disappointing my family. They know im kind of lazy, and I think they just hope for the best for me.

well, pretty much every one in a standard office is pathetic and lazy, don't let that stop you. But that's because they all hate their jobs. Even people who start off working hard tend to stop because no one else is. If you want to work hard, work in small companies and plan on starting your own business.

(The) Office (Space), both the movie and the show, are funny because they are true.

I was in that exact same spot in college.

I was a degen perv, who spent more time in his dorm room fapping than actually socializing. It's a pretty vicious cycle, where you commit yourself to your dorm, then no-one invites you to parties because you're always in your dorm, so you spend more time in your dorm looking at porn and wondering why no-one will invite you to parties.

Step one. Get out there, and you're at a college, take advantage of that big swimming pool that you're paying for, get to the gym, and play some racquetball for gods sake. Get a few buddies to work out with you. Nothing better than working out for a depression

Step 2. Spend time in the common areas of your dorm. Talk to people, joke around and just don't spend any time in your room. You're probably grinding some poker hours away... so try to adjust your poker grind hours in such a way that you can also get some socialization.

step 3, talk to your advisor and let him/her know. TBH I always got stuck at the same mental road block you did. I don't want to work for the rest of my life. I want to play. Also, the more money you make, the more you can play. The balance is, if you know you won't be happy at all working, find something that you at least will hate the least, and will earn you enough money, with enough flexibility to really enjoy the time you aren't working.

that's how I got out of my funk.
The older I get, the more I start wondering; Just what in the hell is going on here?

I commute to school, but im also a really antisocial person. At parties I will get social anxiety. I panic. I have no problem meeting girls, though. I project my confidence well because i'm a good looking guy.. but i alienate people i think. They invite me out and im like oh, no thanks; because im fucking scared shitless about the unknown. I'd probably be fine. There is no reason that anything bad would happen, i just worry it would and i embarass myself, so i scrap the whole idea altogehter

paragraph 2

paraghaph 3

paragraph 4

there, now it looks like i didnt just write two really long sentences.

With the ways I posted.

Working out really got me goin... I'm kinda in a funk again, and it's my knee jerk reaction.

I didn't finish college either tho. I just got myself right because I found a job I love, and when I stopped loving the job I moved on, and landed in another one I love.

If I can figgure out poker, it'll be nothing but honies and monies

Take my advice and DON'T drop out to get a job. Pretty much everyone in my office apart from the directors leads a soul-destroying husk of a life.

If you drop out get into a trade of some sort. Like wood work, then when you make something you'll be all "sweet". Then in 2 years when you realize you're fucking sick of working worry about going back to school.

As for the anxiety try alcohol, aka, "Liquid courage".

(The following does not apply to most people)
Also, work on turning off the inner monologue. If you're constantly analyzing things all the time, like you said it'll drive you insane. Not sure how I learned to do that but if I get on the 3rd level or so thinking about a situation I just give up. Being lazy helps

If you're out in a group pick someone that you think is doing a good job being social and try to pickup on what they're doing. You'll start to realize people don't really care about much, especially when alcohol is involved.

This ^^... and force yourself into uncomfortable situations. It's like the first time you get punched in the face, you're like "fff-----ckkk....!". Second and third time it's more like "sh!!t!". Past that, you're too busy beating the dude's ass to worry too much about it.

Point is the unfamiliar is 10x scarier only 'cause it is. Make it familiar, and you'll learn pretty damn quick that everybody is pretty insecure, f-d up, worried about what other people are thinking of them, etc. It's mostly window dressing baby... and you get real with that and it's a lot easier to not give a sh!t what other insanely insecure people think.

In most crowds 10% of the people gonna have they sh!t together way better than you, 70% gonna be right in your boat witchu and the other 20% is more f-d up beyond belief. Dive in and act accordingly.

If you still breathin and moving, you ain't useless...

You wanna cheap and easy way to get some purpose? Volunteer somewhere. Don't matter if it's just sitting listening to old folk tell the same damn story for the 100th time. Whoever it is, believe me, they need you and you'll be amazed at the impact you can have for doing sh!t that to you don't seem like a damn thing. Do it for a little bit and it'll boost you quicker than a tab of E and a victoria's secret menage.....

Do you want advice or do you want emo sympathy?

This is simple, pick one:
a) Do something to start changing the way you act since you don't like it
b) Go to a doctor and get happy pills
c) Go to a drug dealer and get happy pills
d) Cut yourself to remind yourself you're alive. (Just don't do it around the wrists or other major arteries.)

Before you miss the point of my post...

If NOTHING makes you happy then go to a doctor of some sort.

If you're looking for one thing to make you happy I think you're trying too hard. It almost sounds like you're trying to imagine this happy place where you get a new major and everything is perfect. That's likely not happening.

I don't particularly care for my life at the moment because there's not much excitement, but there's still stuff that makes me happy. I'll make a list for you in no particular order, maybe you'll agree with a couple.

Exercising
Throwing a frisbee
Riding my bike somewhere instead of driving
Alcohol
Football
Movies
Not watching crap for hours on TV
Porn
Sexual relations with females
Cooking
Origami
Video games
Llamas
The bunny in my sig
My Av

There has to be SOMETHING besides hooking up with girls.

{EDIT: forgot my close}
Instead of worrying about the big picture in life sucking I get lost in the details.

Stop trying to see the point in tomorrow and just realize you are alive now. The feeling of being aware that you are alive is empowering. Stop trying to find happiness in materials, possessions, or activities. The feeling of joy you receive from them is superficial and will not last. Instead, try find joy from yourself, find joy in your existence.

I mean c'mon, you could have been a cockroach for gods sake.
