Alright I'm having some mad problems with my home theatre system. I'll do my best to explain. Everything was professionally installed.. and there's a lot of shit, the TV, 5 speakers, sub, power conditioner, amplifier, reciever, DVD player, xbox, you get the point. Everything is wired in High def too and there are so many wires back there that I really don't know wtf is going on.

Anyway, I try hooking my xbox 360 up today that I just got. On the back of the power conditioner (think of it is as a sophisticated surge protector the size of a receiver or very large DVD player, with all kinds of cool things on it. There are like columns of two on the back with the female end of outlets to provide the power. So I just put the xbox 360 one underneath the Xbox one. I get everything setup between the power conditioner, 360, and receiver, and I start flipping channels, inputs, etc., trying to find where tf on my TV I should be to be playing this thing. Well I can't find it, so I come over here on my computer for a little bit (another room).

Anyway, I hear this high pitch noise coming from my family room. Jesus christ, everything's off, and the power conditioner is emmitting this super agitating high pitched sound. And there's upwards of 20k worth of electronics hooked up to this bad boy, so if everything is fried (hopefully unlikelY), I'm going to be very upset. When I unplug the power conditioner, the noise stops. Plug it back in, it starts where it left off.

Another something to add, the subwoofer is the only thing NOT powered through the power conditioner. Like the power conditioner has an outlet, and everything else that needs power is plugged into the power conditioner. Anyway the sub has it's own outlet and is plugged directly in the wall. That is still powered (as evidenced by the blue light emitted on the front by it). However, there doesn't seem to be any control of it. Like if you turn the 'volume' up, you get this steady increasing emmission of bass sound. Turn the volume off, and it stops.

There are also 2 lights illuminated on the front of the power conditioner
- WIRING OK
- GROUND OK

doesn't power anything else though

original xbox has been disconnected and turns on through another outlet, so that offers me a great deal of hope that nothing else has been fried.

Anybody with any knowledge of this stuff around here?

Any help would be appreciated.

anyways to help lukie, well I dont really have any help. But I would suggest plugging everything into the wall and seeing if it still works.

Also check on the power thing to see if theres like a reset switch. You might have kinda blew a fuze sortat thing... like when you put on too much stuff in your house, and a fuze blows and you have to go to the fuze box and flip the switch. Im guess that this power thing would have a thing like that, and you just plugged too much in. If you cant find this and all your other stuff works, see if you have a warranty on the power thing. If you dont, thne call the compnay and complain, if they wont do shit for you, just go buy a new one.

However if your other shit is fucked up then get the company to pay for all the shit. but it sounds like youre ok, since the xbox works still.

Heh, yeah, I want to but shit is so tricky back there that I really don't want to mess with it. I'm just going to call up the guys that installed it (I know one of them somewhat well) and have them take a look at it. I mean I really doubt anything besides the power conditioner is going to have a problem after I've thought about it for a while, but even that bad boy cost like $375 if I remember correctly and retails for something like $500.

Yeah I know there is a fuse in that thing somewhere, I just don't know how to get to it tbh. But to me, I don't think it is the fuse, just because the 2 lights are on in the front and it's making that weird noise, which leads me to believe the thing is severely messed up. And my real worry is it messed everything else up.

I just got my fucking furniture in too, and this shits gotta go happen. Grrrrrrrrrrr

Man I'm really hoping this isn't the case.. but if by chance it is, I'll deal with it then...

Update: The power conditioner was indeed fried, but everything else is cool. They gave me a new one though and everything is up and running right now. My concern is now with that xbox360 which isn't hooked up right now. I'm afraid that if I hook it up to the power conditioner, it's going to F up this one, and if I hook it up to an outlet in the wall, there won't be any surge protection from the outlet to the reciever (where the HD cables will be going to). But they are coming out on Friday to make a few changes so I'll let them deal with it, and I'll make sure they are well aware of the situation.

yah, just tell them whats up. Maybe you need a seperate surge protection. I mean you can buy a cheap power strip surge protector for the xbox itself. The thing you have is actually not only to protect against surges but dips too, and thats one of ht reasons its so expensive. But whatever, let htem handle it, theyll know what to do.

yeah this is a great idea, I was actually thinking this same thing to be honest. Just some cheap $20 surge protector from walmart would probably do the trick.

tough to say without being there in person, it could be something as simple as a shorted resistor, but I can't really tell.
take your ego out of the equation and judge the situation dispassionately
