LCD > plasma but the gap is getting closer (plasma bulbs used to wear out)

Depends on your room size, really. We have a huge living room so our 52 inch Aquos (which we love) works for us....my in-laws have a smaller living room so anything more than a 42-inch would be overwhelming. I think there's a site that will tell you the ideal size of TV for how far your couch/chairs are away from the TV...

We've got an Aquos so I'd recommend that, because we fucking love ours. Man-up and get the 52-inch if your room can handle it.

Wow, do not even mention a TV if its not widescreen.
Hence, 4:3 shouldn't evee even be mentioned by you again.

That said, know the shortcomings of the format you are choosing. Wikipedia that.
But try a bright LCD. The Sony XBR series seem to be the top of the line at the moment, with some victories going to Samsung.

I myself, godwilling, am going to get me this one (or a better one like it by the time I have that kinda disposable cash):

i just got my parents a sony 46" xbr4 for xmas via onecall. should be here sometime next week. it's what my dad was looking at and i think it's a great choice. personally, i'd go with an lcd and wouldn't settle for less than 1080p. from there i'd go as big and as high quality as your budget and room size allow. if it meant waiting a little while longer to scrape together extra cash for a bigger tv, i'd do it. you'll thank yourself later.

Dude Samsung is a sick brand for HDTV's. LCD definetely edge out plasmas though. My thought is if your going to buy an expensive TV, go for the gold.

I want a new tv at some point the not insanely distant future. I have a lot of other things I need to handle first, but you can get such a nice picture quality for an affordable price nowadays its just crazy. Im tired of watching movies and even just normal tv on my 4:3 crt

Dude front projection.

My living room = 130" HD and its gorgeous, PS3 and Wii are just crazy.

Ooh and they can be more inexpensive than a plasma or LCD
