Hi guys,
I have a confession to make...
Someone left a note for me on my desk while I was in school. It was really sweet of her, but I think she tried to write on my 19'' flat screen computer monitor with a magic marker first before switching to paper. So now I have a long black mark on my screen. How do I get this off safely? I tried google but he didn't know how either.

Hi all, none of your solutions have worked. Even after telling the joke out loud to the black mark, it remains in place. Any other suggestions?

Before you do anything, check the manufacturers website, they will probably have some help for you. Dont go and ruin your screen just because the black mark is annyoing you.

Maybe the mark doesn't really get dumb blond jokes. Maybe try a knock knock joke?

Flat screen or flat panel?
If it's flat screen use rubbing alcohol, or windex
If it's a flat panel the above should work, but be careful (i.e. try a corner first)
Sorry for adding content to an otherwise funny thread

The number of replies:number of helpful replies ratio is not looking good at 13:3. Lets try and improve upon this guys. We will either improve as a team or die as individuals.
About the monitors - the whole monitor is flat. The screens don't appear to be made out of glass like my old big monitor was.
The first person to fix this will be rewarded with something hot and black inside them. I'll reveal the surprise later.

definitely rubbing alcohol not windex, windex has a lot higher chance of scuffing/etc. computer stores sell wipes that have rubbing alcohol/other crap on them that might work.

Thank you Greed. I'll give this one a try later on today. You obviously wanted the prize more than anyone else here. Should I still try it on my friend's computer first or are you pretty sure rubbing alcohol is the way to go?

Lukie...I think that abusing women is not a laughing matter. You should be ashamed of yourself. I only abuse women if they mess up something serious like my dinner or being on their period when I want sex.

To remove the marker, go to the store and buy some deep woods off. Spray some onto a rag and then wipe the mark. It will come off and it won't damage your monitor....I gaurantee it.

I think its 19". I mean, its about as long as one and a half of my pensises. I use my penis to measure things that fit in between a foot and a yard. Plus, the monitor beats the hell out of my old 13" black and white vacuum tube tv monitor.

I was just reading an article in a pc magazine about cleaning computers. They recomend that you DONT use alcohol to clean flat panels. Most flat panels have coatings on them that the alcholhol can smudge.
Quote:
LCDs
If you regularly manage to launch tomato sauce onto your LCD (including laptop displays) as I do, then a dab with a bit of water wont neccessarily work. Ammonia-based cleansers are an absolute no-no, and alcohol-based cleansers may smudge the coatings on some displays. Play it safe-- stick wit hsoft cloth and water for daily maintenance, and I recommend attacking lunch debris and other screen crud with PixelClean from ScreenTek (12$ for a kit that includes 1fl. ounce and travel wipes, www.pixelclean.com).
|
I know Ive seen a shitload of LCDs that have smude marks on them, probably from people using household cleaners like windext or using alcohol-based cleaners, I knwo I would go nuts if my LCD looked like that. Just go to the store and buy a cloth designed to clean glasses or monitors if they have them, get it moist with some warm water and youll be fine.

windex absolutely will smudge your screen. alcohol in general will not - most store bought cleaners have alcohol in them - but there's no guarantee that it will have no impact at all. i've heard it can degrade some anti-glare stuff, etc, but if its just a one time cleaning, i doubt it'll be a problem.

Nah, my computer desk was a mess so it was probably crowded when she pulled the cap off, accidentally rubbed the tip against the screen and got the black mark there. Since the screen was off, she probably never even saw what she did. We broke up for other reasons, but who knows if it will really last. We've gone through all that before...

I just read an article saying that writing on a LCD with a permanant marker will leave somewhat of a smudge-like mark. FOREVER...
Unless of course you try cleaning it with alcohol.
If the alcohol smudge is a concern, I'd recommend that you cover the entire monitor with marker, then clean it with alcohol.
Result: A nice even smudge.
May I have some coffee now pleeze
