Here's one:
Disclaimer: I know little to nothing about internet/computers
I am currently downloading a lot of movies/music since discovering the wonderful world of uTorrent. Downloading so much has bogged down my internet speed making poker a little laggy. Here's the question:
Can you allocate certain internet activity to one source (my land line for the downloads) and then be able to use another source of internet connection on the same computer (wireless internet for poker)?

If you can it's not simple. FWIW I don't think so.
You may be able to limit how much bandwidth your downloader is using. Or just pause it while you're pokering and let it download while you're out drinking.

I'm pretty sure you can't.
However, while you are playing poker you can limit the download speed on utorrent so it won't rape your bandwidth so much, then just change it back to unlimited when your not using your computer.
To do that just go to OPTIONS/PREFERENCES/CONNECTION in utorrent
Equally you could schedule times and days where you limit the bandwidth usage by utorrent in the settings, useful if you only really play poker on fixed days/times.
To do this go to OPTIONS/PREFERENCES/SCHEDULER in utorrent

Yeah. Expanding on Muzz's topic, you should schedule it so that when you are sleeping all your torrents are on high priority, get rid of any limits, max the settings. if you go to your windows task manager (strl+alt+del), choose processes, find Utorrent.exe, right click, and set priority to real time. Close any other programs you dont need on. Kiss your router good night.

depending on your connection theres a good chance that you dont even need to limit the download, but instead need to limit the upload. When you download something your computer needs to send a tiny bit of info back saying "hey I got that piece, go ahead with the next chunk" or something like that. The problem is if your upload is maxed out this info gets put in line and your download speed gets adversely effected. If you set your upload to unlimited and have enough things running to max it out, take that number and then limit the upload to 70-80%, doesnt have to be exact, we are just trying to allow for a bit of a buffer zone.

IMO, I'd limit uploading to around 40kbs. You reeally don't need to be uploading any faster. Just keep your torrents on after they've finished d/ling for a while.

What's the point of allowing uploads at all besides not being a douchebag?

if you limit the upload too much, your download will suffer, also all the good sites are by membership and they track your upload/download ratio. If you dont share, they ban you.
and pokermuzz, 40kbs might be great for your connection, but for someone elses that could be too high, or too low.
