I'm not sure if this has been posted before as I don't usually read through a lot of posts here because of short attention span, etc. Anyway, while I was innocently drinking delicious cranberry juice from the bottle (yes the bottle) I had a stunning revelation. Why not have an FTR HU round-robinish tourney? I know they have a gauntlet already but this time we can prove who the ultimate HU player is. I'm not just throwing this idea out hoping someone else will run it. I'd be willing to organize the whole thing. I just want to hear some input.

Its possible, but HU matches most the times (especially NL ones) are decided on 2 or 3 hands, not on a player's skill. Its just a crap shoot....

Ask Ripptyde how he feels about that, haha.
Anyway, I had some extra time so I wrote up a basic synopsis of what the tourney would be like. I'm excited about something like this so whether it's 4 or 40 people who want to do this, let me know. I think it would be fun.
HU Tourney Info
Format: Preliminary group round robin with qualifying playoff. This will follow a similar format of the World Cup (soccer/futbol). People will be divided into subgroups. The preliminary rounds will consist of a match against each person in your group. A player will receive 2 points for a win and 0 points for a loss. Accumulating points gives you a better chance of qualifying for the HU playoffs. Group sizes and number of playoff qualifiers will be determined by number of tournament applicants.
Arena: I’m going to assume it will be played on PokerStars as with my experience they offer an easy $5 + .50 HU SNG game. Higher stakes are allowed but only with the consent of both players. Default stake will be the $5 + .50 buyin. Other poker venues are allowed with the consent of both players also.
Schedule: I’d like input on schedule from people. I was thinking 2 matches a week is enough to keep things interesting but not overload anyone’s schedule. Default days would be Sunday/Monday and Wednesday/Thursday. However, matches can be rescheduled to different times as long as the match is completed before the upcoming week of continued matches. Time of match would be determined by players through email or IRC.

Toasty tried to set one up, and Fnord tried to set one up, but it gets difficult. It requires people to schedule it themselves and tht usually doesn't happen.

I don't know what they have to say
It makes no difference anyway.
Whatever it is...
I'm against it.

I once heard some pro, forget who it is, say it would take no less than 10,000 hands of 2 players playing heads up to decide who is greater overall. So yes it is a crapshoot

its not a crapshoot... it can be made a crapshoot. But it really wouldn't decide the best, atleast not being ran once... maybe 10 time's. I would play, just because a little competition and trash talking is always fun.
