today i had an exam that was about 150 questions. some of the questions were duplicates. at least one pair of duplicates were true false questions that i had no idea what the answer was.

if you were me, would you choose the route of less variance and put true for one and false for the other, or would you guess the same answer on both to save face? although the EV is the same, i'm wondering who would do what.

also, after i had made my decision the professer announced to the class that it was a mistake, but both were graded so just put the same answer for both. that probably doesn't better but it might change some minds.

I'd put the same answer for both but if you took the test infinite times, the ev would still be 1 correct either way.

it depends on how close you would be to a pass WITHOUT any of the duplicates, ie the utility of the points. if for example you figured to have a guaranteed 40%, and twenty uncertaing questions, of course you would go for the option of choosing both sides to guarantee a 50%.

Gotta go same answer on both. (Although in my law class this sem, I've screwed up both times. And the prof always claims it was a mistake... I doubt that, she's way too sneaky for that. heh.)

Typically, I'd go for reduced variance, unless the possible outcome was detrimental -- e.g., mixed answers would only earn me an F, while gambooled answers would give me either an F or a C -- then I would gamb00l
I'm a know-it-all.

No, really.

Depends on how I think I'm doing on the test. If I'm sure that I'm going to be getting around a 30-60, then I'll take my guaranteed question right.

If I knew most of the rest of the test and was looking at an 80-100, I'd choose the same answer.

It all depends on how I think I'm doing on the REST of the test.

That being said, all other factors being unknown, choose the same one.

I've always gamboled, but recently I've learned the ways of losing the least when I'm behind (like taking a 150 question exam).

Well, splitting 8's against a T is correct by the book and my philosophy.... I guess I'm just a cocky bastard.

Here was my final today

Here is a sentence from one of the 16 pieces we read. What does the author mean by this one word?

Appeared atleast twice with just different sentences and words.

But back to your problem, I'd go 1 and the other. You can absorb the guar minus 1 easy.

Smithers, use the amnesia ray.
You mean the revolver, sir?
Precisely.

Umm...... cheating has double the EV it normally does here, ducy?

When in doubt, gamb000000l.

On a more serious note, I was always a good test taker. Studying is overrated, go for your first impression or the one that makes the most/least logical test, depending on your teacher.

I used to spell out fuck you with the lil bubbles on those scantron multiple choice state tests... Those things didnt count for shit anyways, only thing they did was get your school more money if kids did good on them. You didnt get graded....

Oh.. and I would get bored in class in high school during tests and just draw a continuous line right down the page that went through all the A's or B's or whatever .. not even filling htem in just drawing a line that went through them all. Then I would draw for the rest of class. Considering I didnt care if I passed or failed, this was the most +ev thing for me to do. My time was worth more to me then my grades.

On state tests I earned a buncha money for school +EV for me there.

I had to do some BS PSY studies for PSY101, and I wrote penis using the bubbles since its anonymous. I felt so proud of myself

Also, if it's a true/false question, note how the question is worded. There are ton of little tricks here but words like 'never', 'always', etc.. usually mean false.

qualifiers like usually, generally, etc.. usually mean true.

Of course, you probably don't care, which is why I say gamb000000000l.
