Republican presidential nominee John McCain needs to hear from you TODAY. This week, the Republican Platform Committee included language in the party platform (a document outlining the priorities of the GOP) that supports efforts to outlaw online poker and other forms of online gaming. This is especially troubling given that hundreds of PPA members and poker enthusiasts contacted the Platform Committee and stated their preference that the GOP not include anti-online gaming language in this year’s platform like they did in 2000 and 2004. Sadly, the GOP ignored these calls and decided to abdicate core conservative principles in favor of a "nanny-state" approach to governance.
Please let McCain know you are not pleased with his party’s decision by sending him a letter TODAY telling him to repudiate this plank of the GOP platform. Simply click the button below to send a letter directly to McCain’s presidential campaign. You can send PPA's prewritten letter in less than 60 seconds! Or, you can use the site to send your own letter. It's that easy!

I miss the conservatives of old.
You know...the small, less intrusive government supporting types. What ever happened to them?
Modern 'conservatives' are just as much into nanny state bullshit as liberals are, just with their own moralistic flavor.

I sent a letter to my congressowoman last year and after 3-4 months I got some cookie-cutter response about taking my thoughts into consideration.
I emailed back a more stern response and I still have not heard back. Frankly I was pretty put off by her response (it obv. wasn't her but a representative) because I just don't see how you can support something that seemingly no Americans (except politicians and gov't officials) are opposed to. Honestly, how many Americans are writing their representatives asking them to keep the ban on online gambling going? My guess, none.

Thank you for making your voice heard. With the election just weeks away it is more important than ever that the candidates know POKER PLAYERS VOTE!
Poker Players Alliance
As a voter and as a poker player, I am writing to share with you my
outrage over the decision of the Republican Platform Committee to adopt
language opposing my right to play Internet poker. The fact that this was
added after its initial removal from the draft platform only serves to
reinforce my anger over this.
I am very disappointed that the Republican Platform Committee chose to
pander to anti-poker extremists who presented not facts, but hysterical,
unsubstantiated hyperbole. The facts are clear - online poker can and
should be offered in the U.S. in a safe, regulated manner, just as it is
throughout the world. In fact, a recent study from respected academics at
the University of Western Ontario and the University of Nevada found that
U.S. regulation of Internet poker provides the greatest opportunity to
protect consumers from potential pitfalls of online gaming. The current
laws, including the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, do nothing
to protect children and those with excessive gaming habits. Plain and
simple, attempts at prohibition will continue to be failed policy, but
licensing and regulation will result in positive social and public policy
outcomes.
What's most important to me is your support for my rights. This support
will certainly play a part in my decision on whom to vote for this
November. I call on you to officially renounce this plank of the platform
and restore the conservative principles of personal freedom and individual
responsibility. I hope that I, along with my over one million fellow Poker
Players Alliance members, can count on your support.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
|
