any decent player would mop the floor with you if those are the only strategies you know.

Call me old fashioned, but I like to run over and surround my opponent's base with photon cannons before they can do anything about it.

alright.. i watched some videos.... holy shit.

I will never be able to play like that... luckily none of my friends are any good either.

I think, for us, it will be like poker is for so many people out there.. a leisure activity that we can play for fun, using some tiny bits of strategy, but in general not actually playing "well" or improving in any way... between poker, football, wife, and kids... i really have no desire to throw away time at another game.

thks for the appropriate slapping....

lol. Isn't Starcraft like 13 years old at this point?

Although if you want to learn strategies, go straight to the source: battle.net . They have some seriously good writeups for strategy there, both basic and advanced.

Yes, and it's still the best RTS out there. Hopefully the sequel lives up to the original.

i stopped playing like 6 years ago and i still remember all the hundreds of builds i'd use for various races on various maps depending on the matchup.

ie 12 ramp hatch 11 pool 12 gas -- 100 then get speed upgrade whle making some lings make 3rd hatch at expo and get map control with lings for zvp on temple

obv then power for a bit upgraded hydra/lurk/ling, box them into their expo and main, resume map control and take a bunch of expo's

do you hatch at expansion first on 6 and 9 oclock on lt, or do you still ramp? Are sunkens on the cliff more valuable than having the hatch at exp a little earlier?

depends on the map, some versions make it easy for z to take xpo first and no need for cliff

I specified lost temple, and further specified the two starting positions that would allow for the exp to block their ramp.

oh fuck, I forgot about that. I remember playing a couple of the edited ones that were supposed to be more fair by eliminating the luck of the draw. For the most part though I just played the ladder certified one.

a lot depended on matchup and mood. in picked Z vs Picked P i really (REALLY) liked the ramp hatch + speedlings up and drones off gas + 3rd hatch at expo. Of course, like in poker, I always wanted a certain amount of randomness to my game so I had so many different builds, and a lot of times I'd have to transpose in because of ZvRandom which was a big deal to me at first but after thousands of games I got over that without much of a problem.

and in that zvp case, of course we wouldnt immediately build a sunken at the cliff unless it was absolutely necessary.

also, if you wanted to be a real dick while the toss player was 1 gate fast teching (presumably to +1 zeals, zeal speed upgrade, templars) you could send 4 drones to their mineral patch along with your speedlings and break up their block on the ramp with their zeals. basically there's a charactaristic in the game where worker units will run through all other units if they have an active mineral square to go to (they cant be under fog of war). so attack with ur lings whle sending drones to break em up, run lings by to other side and either own probes or own zeals then probes. this would also work if the toss was too greedy with their rush and let you own some with lings/speedlings.

usually it would just be better to make minimal lings and lots of drones though. zeals were so slow that u could start making more lings when they left their base. the 3rd hatch got up surprisingly fast too.

ok i quit this game 6 yrs ago for a reason
