I don't know which way to vote so I'm going to withhold judgment till both sides present their arguments.

I agree with Jyms. I think the fighting is ruining the game.

Seriously? It takes like one minute of viewing time away from the actual sport. And it's pretty rare that there's more than one fight a game.

Thank you.

Theres hardly any fighting anymore and people are still complaining about it. I dont get it.

Plus its the most exciting part of any sport by far.

I've been watching hockey since the 80's and I honestly see no real negligible difference in violence level aside from the fact that hardly anyone fights their own fights anymore (except Iginla).

It's still a great game to watch. People just like to complain.

Not the fights, the stupidity. Tired of the big bruising fighters that can't skate and play one minute a game. I'm not talking about guys like Iginla that drop the gloves, just the lunk heads

Theres way less fights now and no one gets jumped anymore like they did back then.

I saw a Buffalo/Boston playoff game that had about 5 fights in a row, everyone of them off the face off and in 3 of them one guy didnt know it was going to happen. The other guy just started crushing him. AH the good ol days.

You know what's crazy? There was this guy (I forget his name, it was Craighead or something like it) who was a goon for the Canucks. Not like the full time goon, but just the guy they called up from the minors when all the regular goons had broken hands or whatever. He was this big black dude.

Anyway, I played in this one ice hockey summer league and I guess he knew someone's team and played for them from time to time. This was only a rec league but a pretty good one. Filled up with a lot of ex junior A players that weren't good enough to go anywhere. So nothing special but we weren't bad by any means.

This Craighead guys shows up and was amazing. I mean, no one could take the puck off him, his passes were untouchable, and he even scored from center ice with a killer shot.

Now I know we obviously weren't NHL level players or anything even remotely close to it. But this guy really put things into perspective. This is a guy who's not even good enough to be a regular goon for a pro team and here he is the most unbelievable player we have all ever come across.

Not sticking up for the goons you mentioned, just made me think of that story. Not the greatest story now that I read it over. But whatever, it's already been written.
