Just like anything else that takes time away from them, I have a spouse that isn't exactly supportive about my venture into the poker world. Even worse, she works at a hospital and is concerned about the addictive side of it.
It was easier a year ago when we did not live together but now it seems that if I hop on for an hour - and she's home - she gets concerned. I've explained about variance, showed her my positive results (profit so far), tried to get her interested but no dice.
Just wanted to get some feedback on how best to deal with this besides taking my laptop to the local coffee shop with internet access. Any FTR people ever had to deal with this? Obviously the relationship is more important to me than poker but I'd like to keep both as part of my life.

I dated a girl for 4 years until May of last year - one year after I took up poker full-time. I basically chose the game over her.

BankIt... are you trying to say that you two were incompatible?

So you click their picture and then you get their money?

My ex didn't like me playing poker, but that was back in my LHE days, so that's totally understandable.

I have no interest in discussing strategy with a protege'. Your job is to remain quiet and listen. I have a very systematic approach that I will share with the right candidate and I promise that I will turn you into a force of nature and show you elements of the game of poker that you never knew existed.

my ex hated my LHE habit, but it was the repeating things that finally drove her away.

My ex didnt like poker, but she had good reason to feel that way. I was a pretty big tilt monkey.
I think if youre not a huge tilt monkey and youre making money then they need to stfu. Actually even if youre not a winning player but keep it as a healthy hobby and dont gamble away your savings then they should not have a problem with you playing a few hours a week.
If I were playing poker again I dont think I could date anyone who couldnt comprehend that you can play the game profitably.

My girlfriend didn't like me playing poker, then our daughter (toddler) accidentally jabbed her in the eye, poker payed for the medical expenses, she's been a lot more understanding since.

start making enough money and she won't mind
if it's a huge problem this is something that should have been worked out waaaaaaay before you got married. could be deeper issues and/or underlying problems too, she just picked poker to complain about

The commune is where poker players go to die. It's like how Vegas is for washed up celebs.

Mines always been ok with it, but I set myself some groundrules that sat well with her. I've always had a somewhat addictive personality, and at least this one doesnt cost us money, and she knows theres potential for it to earn money (already has).

My ex gf and her parents think I'm a stupid degen and wasting my life (yeah she told them I play poker). This is coming from perhaps the absolute dumbest of blondes ever to walk the face of the earth. I'm pretty sure Paris Hilton looks like a well tamed scholar in comparison to this filth. She's literally retarded, like I think she actually had a disability that I was just completely oblivious to.
Perhaps this is true, these things they say. I guess we'll see where I am in 5 years when the time comes , I'll be done school by then anyway and not 'gambling' anymore lol.
now if only I had nude pikes of this ho to share for justice...
I found a new girl who digs what I do though, plus she's not a huge mental case so I guess thats a win.
Moral of the story:
