The PAD cash game episodes are absolutely priceless:
http://www.pokertube.com/Movies.aspx...&page=1&list=2
watch all 4 parts. Hellmuth basically plays terribly and loses most hands. It's great.

Oh awesome, I'll have to download those episodes...
I'm listening to his book in audiobook form right now (time killer on the commute to work) and his irritating arrogant tone grates at my nerves. I can't believe they let him read his own book for the audiobook.

phil is so bad, snap-shoves with bottom set. Gawd yer horribal. Learn to soulread. Cunninghams entire range is like quads+ there.

I just watched the intro to the video.
The guy on Phil's right played him last year (or maybe it was 2008) in the heads up main tournament. Phil lost after getting it all in preflop against this guys TT, phil had a bigger pair. They talked a lot after the hand in true Phil form.

I'm hardcore, yo.
I tough through it in case there's actually some hidden gems in there that'll help my game. So far it's just self-indulgent BS. If I have to hear him tell me how many bracelets he's won ONE MORE TIME in that smarmy voice of his, I swear to fuck my ipod is going out the window.

It wasnt even a slowroll ffs, seemed like an innocent mistake by baxter that hellmuth went way over the top on. He was just pissed that he couldnt get away from his top pair no kick. Also him then taking his frustrations out on the weird looking guy to his right is just uncool, though the dudes comments that he wouldnt be sure if kk was good there is a tad retarded. I find hellmuth entertaining but he is such a massive prick.

Hellmuth was really a dick to everyone at the table. And the bad thing is, everyone trys to be nice to him it seems as to not start shit and Phil still berates them.

Like any of you guys are folding bottom set, lol. Give Phil a break, he doesn't have the most bracelets just because he's lucky.

He's so funny/bad in both episodes. My personal favorite is how he doesn't stop talking about how the one guy got so lucky in that AK hand when Phil 3-bet preflop, Then checked the K high flush draw flop all the way to the river to call a bet when there was now a 4 card straight out there.

is it just me or does he try to berate the other players to disguise his own bad play in the hand?
with the kk hand he can't say anything, so he accuses the other guy of slowrolling?

LOL, this is why I love PHIL (all caps so I don't injure his ego), and tourney donks in general
They win bracelets, and think they are "the best of the world", "at the top of the game", "greatest of all time" and whatever.
And then they'll sit at my cash table... (when I am hypothetically balla, obv.)

whenever you cause your opponent to act differently than they would have had they saw your cards you gain, etc. Why the fuck is he bitching about the AK hand when he gave the guy 2 free cards? He cant honestly think that this was a good idea...i mean....really? 2 free cards and bitching when he catches an out? stfu. whats worse is it sounded like he "knew" he was gonna get sucked out on and thats why he wasnt betting lol.

z0mg wtf is ev anyway?
To be fair though Phil is a pretty big nit so he probably didn't think that anyone decent was going to call him with a huge reverse implied odds hand like Q T os. Checking the flop with TPTK isn't really bad in a 3 bet pot when you are like 250 BB's deep imo. Checking the turn is LOL retarded though.
edit: Actually I don't think Phil was that deep when this hand happened.

Is this a level? Of course he can't fold bottom set. I'm sure he is a grand tourney player, but he is THE fish at that table. And that is saying a lot considering Guy and Mike Baxter are at that table.
I'm not sure why they put Phil on this episode to play 6 max nl cashaments. Only thing I can figure is to embarrass him. He doesn't know how to value bet and plays every hand like his "tournament life" is on the line. And LAWL Phil telling Tom Dwan he has a lot to learn.

He doesn't know how to value bet
|
Is this for real? That's almost as lame as the assertion that he doesn't know the simple maths of poker. If noobs and intermediates can learn this stuff then am pretty sure a world class player, with 20 years experience can, and has.
Rag on the guy, say he's not the best HU player or the best cash player, or even the best in the world - but get things into perspective.
People, for some reason, decreed that he could only play NLHE, and yet he was leading the $1500 HORSE from the start. But he can still only play NLHE, right?
People criticised his laydowns in the ME yet he's the guy with an uncanny ability to read players, has 11 bracelets and, this year, outlasted bigger stacks such as Ramdin, Hansen & Cunningham. But he was still wrong, right?
And now these same people are saying he can't value bet, was wrong not to laydown a set (Negreanu busted out of the ME in set over set confrontation) and can only play like he's playing a tourney? Gimme a break!
He's not to be found at the Bellagio but from what I've heard his cash game is okay. He's not constantly testing himself in Bobby's Room and so isn't going to be the best cash player, just as he isn't gonna be the best HU player and so such comments are fair and valid but to deride a world class player (and that is what he is) and a living legend (which, like it or not, is what he is) is sheer lunacy! Especially over such basic concepts that far, far, far lesser players grasp with relative ease. Gall doesn't even come close to describing it!
And I'd say this about any proven, time served, honour laden, world class pro, not just Hellmuth.
And as for telling Durrr he has a lot to learn: maybe he was right. Maybe he was spouting garbage as he did when he whined about not playing Dwan HU in case his AA got outdrawn by 1010 again. Maybe Dwan is the Second Coming as far as poker is concerned. And maybe he'll be better than Hellmuth ever was. Maybe Hellmuth is completely wrong and that Dwan will go on to revolutionise live poker. Time will tell. Regardless, he's entitled to his opinion - especially as he's been at the top for nigh on 20 years - and seen a number of internet hotshots learn the hard way and adapt to the way live poker is played differently to online.
Or maybe I'm full of shit - but if so then so too are the vast majority of FTRers who aren't at his level yet feel they can bash his game.

you can (sometimes) defend his non standard plays (except felting bottom set wtf phil)but you can never defend him being 1) a table coach who berates fish when they play bad and 2) a grown man who is known for throwing fits. Maybe he's a great guy away from the table but that's the image he's chosen and that's why he gets the hate. If he could keep it together my guess is he'd have a WPT title and a few more bracelets.
Sure people are jealous of his success but there are plenty of equally successful tourney players who do not behave in Phil's way and mostly they are well liked.

I wish Durrrr made that call vs him with the pair of 2's. It would have been funny to see how Phil's blowup would have been. Probably take his sushi back from Durrrr and leave the room with it.

Lol, I'm fine. There was no anger in what I wrote. And it only took a few minutes to write anyway. Sure, some people may be teasing but others mean it and I found that mind boggling. And no, I don't see it as my job to defend him, there's only been 2 threads on the matter. And even I can't defend his non betting of KA vs Q10 only to then whine when Peat makes a straight.

hellmuth is a great tourney player, one of the best ever. Yet at cash hes distinctly average, i would definitely go as far to say that he isnt as good at cash games as the average winning 400nl guy. plus hes such a giant douche, i want to hope its just an act or persona but unfortunately i think hes simply a pompous ass.

fact: phil hellmuth has 11 bracelets.
fact: phil hellmuth is awesome at beating up weak players in tourneys.
fact: phil hellmuth is pretty god awful vs. good to great players.

What's funny to me is how polar Hellmuth's range is when he stacks viffer with 44 to AQ on QT4, Hellmuth plays one-pair hands so slowly that I cannot believe Viffer stacked off there.
Whatever, I hate Phil

You know why I rag on the guy?
I know he's a better player than me. The only way I would ever beat him would be to get all the chips in as a dog, slight or huge, and draw out on him. (at this point.)
But I hate him, for te same reason I didn't want the patriots to go 19-0
his character is in question! If the patriots hadn't had allegation after allegation, and if Roger Goodell hadn't essentially hidden the tapes that prove or disprove the allegations against the patriots, I'd have been wearing read white and blue on superbowl sunday. We could have seen history.
I want Phil to fail because if he is the best player in the world, he acts like the best 4 year old player in the game. He doesn't need to berate players or beat his own chest. In fact, he does the exact opposite of what a well trained poker player is expected to do. If he were just making side bets and losing his ass to ivey all the time and having fun but not at the other players expense, or calling every player that plays a pot with him a donkey, I'd be behind the guy 100%.
To wit, I believe most of the media is biased to make him look like a bad guy. I do know ESPN's WSOP coverage a year back had him actually complimenting a player who outplayed him with a premium pocket pair, (I wanna say it was aces or kings but I don't remember).
Maybe he compliments players who play wel..... But we just don't see it because of ESPN's bias towards him being a brat.
maybe he's just a douchebag who needs to STFU and play his best game.

He should have never agreed to be on this show. At least it comes on at like 2 in the morning and nobody watches it.
