Me, my girlfriend, bmxicle and our freind derek (d-rock from2+2) are going to be jumping out of a plane in one week one day and a couple of hours.
So, yeah.. share your first time skydiving stories or whatever here, or just tell me Im a retard and Im going to snap my femur bone in half or whatever.

you are fucking batshit insane, boost. I dislike flying as it is (I used to HATE it, but I've gotten more used to it the more I've flown), but there's no way I'm jumping out of a perfectly good airplane with nothing but a parachute on my back. fuck that.

Ha you guys crack me up. Have fun Boost. You have nothin to worry about. You're doing a tandem right? If you are plannin on doing it just once you should do a tandem so you get some good free fall. You should buy a video and post it on ftr.
Funny thing is, the first tandem I was ever on was about a year after I broke my leg when I was helping one of my friends get his tandem master rating. It had to be cutaway because the canopy lines all twisted around each other and we couldn't fly it. That is the only cutaway I've ever had but tandems are actually the safest skydive you can do. Call me dumb but I was on my second tandem about an hour after we landed the reserve on the first. Good Times !!!

My recommendation: Do it someplace close to home & don't wake up too early.
I did it when I lived in St. Louis and we had to drive out of the metro area to avoid any conflict with major flight patterns or some shit. Anyway, we woke up early(5am) and drove the 1 hour plus to the airport then did the course that seems to take forever, yada yada yada.
We all jump and experience the thrill of our lives. You hit the ground and you feel the greatest sense of adrenaline, relief, invincibility you have ever felt. So we hurry back to the truck and decide to go to the local C-store to grab/crack open some brews for the ride home. By the time we get home everyone in both trucks is passed out asleep. Best I can figure is coming down off of that high combined with the super early wake up time caused everyone to crash. Kinda killed the momentum. We rallied later that evening but the magic of that adrenaline rush could never be recaptured.

bah... weather was clear around my house, and forecasts said it was good out there. When we got out there there were clouds hanging around 1000 ft. So we took the class and got rain checks and we'll be going back sometime within the next month or so.

When I was in the Military Police I had an opportunity to go Airborne. I said, 'Thanks, but no thanks."
My attitude at the time was; "Why in the hell would I want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane?"
Now that I am a bit more seasoned in life experience, I regret not taking that opportunity when I had it.
It would have been very cool, fun and I would have had some great memories. It also would have all been paid for by Uncle Sam.
Oh well. Maybe someday I'll try a tandem jump out of my own pocket money.

So about 8 years ago, I jumped tandem after about 20 minutes of instructions. It was $115 or so.. and totally worth it. Since I was harnessed to the parachute guy behind me, I had to open the door of the plane, and while squatting down, I had to shimmy out onto the wing without holding on to any part of the plane... So there I was at XXXXX altitude (I don't really remember what it was), crouched onto the wing of an airplane, going w/e mph... I can't feel the guy or see anyone behind me at all, so for all intents and purposes, I felt like I was just sititng there looking at my death. It totally gives me chills to this day. AWESOME, AWESOME feeling.
