I just drank half of one of those "Extreme Energy 6 hour shot" things, cos i thought it would make me wanna play poker. (i drank half because it said to prolong the effect to the whole six hours you should drink half, half in 3 hours).
Then i started into a session of 2/4 and when the drug took effect i began having partial blindness.
Let me explain. I was having blind spots, blur spots actually, and was having trouble seeing whatever i would focus at. At first i thought it was just that my eyes were dilating and that the screen was too bright. So as an experiment I closed one eye. Then i could see fine.
So basically i think its fucking with my ability to focus binocularly. To be specific, there would always be a blind spot to the right of wherever i focus. This was causing me to misclick a lot because whenever it was my turn to act preflop, I wouldn't see that someone had already opened to my right and would 3bet them accidentally.
Has anyone ever had this problem with an energy product. There are no listed side effects of this nature and i can't find anything on the internet to shed some light.

Contains guarana, right? If so, then it has a ton of caffeine.

If there's a defect in the product then the manufacturer is strictly liable. Negligence would be harder to prove.
Yay torts!!

The 5-hour energy drinks are just b-vitamins. No caffeine or sugar.

I have no interest in discussing strategy with a protege'. Your job is to remain quiet and listen. I have a very systematic approach that I will share with the right candidate and I promise that I will turn you into a force of nature and show you elements of the game of poker that you never knew existed.

if Renton's bottle was the only one that was fucked up, it would be a manufacturing defect (sorta like a mouse in a coke bottle). If all the bottles have the shit that is causing the reaction and the manufacturer didn't provide a warning it would be a design defect (like when you need a recall). In either case the manufacturer is strictly liable so we need Renton to have severely injured himself but not killed himself (dead people are worth less than living cripples) so we can get lots and lots of damages.
yay for bar exam in 3 days!!!

reminds my of when i used to get migraines.
from wiki:
n order to diagnose migraine with aura, there must have been at least two attacks not attributable to another cause that fulfill the following criteria:
1. Aura consisting of at least one of the following, but no muscle weakness or paralysis:
* Fully reversible visual symptoms (e.g. flickering lights, spots, lines, loss of vision).
I was about 10 and fishing when i first got mine. i kept looking behind me thinking sum1 was there. it turned out to be getting blind spots.

I haven't had the exact energy drink, but I do drink those 5 hour energy drinks now and then and haven't had anything like that.
The only think I ever felt from energy drinks that i didn't like was when I drank too many red bulls and my heart went crazy fast for a while. Now I limit myself to one drink at a time.

I get these all the damn time. Migraine auras, also heard them referred to as "retinal migraines". What Renton is describing sounds different than what I get. This is a good depiction of what I get:

I immediately thought migraine too. I get auras, blind spots and curving kaleidoscopic effects which precede the full headache by about 45-60 minutes. Caffeine is a known migraine trigger too.
Woah - cobere's link is so realistic it even made me get that little start of panic I get when I know a migraine's coming on. If it's triggered one I'll kill him
Renton - how bad was the headache? How long did it last? Did you take painkillers, and did they work? Did you also suffer photosensitivity and nausea?

I thought about migraine auras as well, as i used to get these. But mine were always kinda shimmery grey with lines going through them and the fact that Renton didn't describe the ensuing headache as severe makes it sound different than my experience of a migraine.
my best guess is caffeine --> high blood pressure -->blurred vision
then later, caffeine withdrawal --> headache
If you're not used to caffeine even a couple coffees' worth can be a pretty powerful stimulant.
