So... I feel a bit odd doing this, but this is something that's pretty important to me so here it goes. My 5 y.o. currently attends a fantastic pre-K program that is partly supported by the University of Maine where I work. As with most every other university around the country the budget continues to dwindle and programs are continually cut. I can appreciate that many of the fiscally conservative among you would argue that's how things go, and it may be of some surprise to you that I actually agree.
In this case, it seems very likely that given appropriate lengths of time this pre-school COULD locate private funding to keep its door's open, but the word of the possible cutting of the program only came to light very recently and is to be decided on before the end of the month. If sufficient one-time pledges could be obtained to keep the Center open for the next (09-10) academic year it would provide ample time to seek long-term external funding to keep it open indefinitely.
My wife is leading the newly formed parents association at the Center to acquire one-time pledges from individuals (mostly current and former parents of children that have used the program).
Part of me feels completely stupid putting out the request, but this is a case where the total amount of money required is like $50k. We expect huge chunks of that will be made up by the parents of course, but this is situation where $1k makes an enormous difference. If interested people could just ship like 1/2 a buyin.. that's be f'ing huge! If ya think you might feel pretty good about yourself knowing you helped out a whole bunch of little kids, please consider shipping a little green this way. It can't help the old karma either...
If you aren't interested, don't have the money, or just don't want to.. that's totally cool too.
Here's a link with a brief run-down on the Child Study Center

If interested in donating please ship to:

lolsillyfish (O) Turtle icon on FullTilt
The Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at UMaine wants a conservative estimate of the pledges by tomorrow at 2pm, so I will check my accounts at 1:30pm and include FTR's cumulative donation up till that point in the conservative estimate. All donations (even those after 2pm) are VERY welcome and there should be no concern about my shipping all the money received plus a serious chunk of my own BR.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask here or in PM.
Thank you all very, very much.
TL;DR - ship kingnat 1/2 a buyin for good cause

We're still shipping out to Fargo at the end of July, so while we may not be using come next fall, I'm still deeply committed to keeping it up and running. There may be a bit of a hiatus on this as the conservative estimate was given to the Dean and he is now working on making it happen.
Thanks everyone! Play on.
