I have no interest in discussing strategy with a protege'. Your job is to remain quiet and listen. I have a very systematic approach that I will share with the right candidate and I promise that I will turn you into a force of nature and show you elements of the game of poker that you never knew existed.

Not only is their platform one of oppressing freedom, but they beat the main thing that scientology has going for it i.e. ridiculousness
What's more ridiculous than an invisible sky daddy who poofed everything into existence using magic, loves his creation dearly yet sends most of it to an eternity of unimaginable torture, created thought-crime, and sent himself in human form to sacrifice himself to appease himself so that humans wouldn't have to suffer for being the humans that he created them as

I love these threads. Can we make this a weekly poll thing?

"Once we reach a certain level of mastery, we see there are higher levels and challenges. If we are disciplined and patient, we proceed. At each higher level, new pleasures and insights await us--ones not even suspected when we started out. We can take this as far as we want--in any human activity there is always a higher level to which we can aspire."

Both camps are tremendously good at making money. You got to hand it to the Christians that they are the most successful religion ever created- in terms of sheer numbers and longevity.
Scientology has just as creative mythical stories as Christianity, and their ways of recruiting is innovative. After all the creator was a science fiction author who made a prop bet he could make more money creating a religion than by writing books.
What tipped my decision, was the cruel tests that the Scientology church make you do. In essence, they tell you how messed up you are and then go on to tell you how to remedy that.
Thinking about it- Christianity does the same. We are all sinners and must follow Jesus in order to escape hell.
I voted Scientology, but it was a 50/50 decision.

Scientology says we're messed up because of tortured souls; Christianity says we're messed up because our loving father created a system by which one mistake fucks up the entirety of the species to come, and punishment is everlasting, unimaginable torture, and the entity who created this system knew that he was condemning the vast majority of his beloved children to this punishment from the very beginning due to omniscience

Both with bug you but, if you're foolish enough to show the slightest bit of interest, the Scientology mob will hound you until you have to get the law involved.

It's easily scientologists. They're the new kids on the block and they're blowing up huge, yah. But christianity is so well rooted, there are gonna be good christian people around for a long time. And Scientology feels like it could be gone in 10 years.

I always thought it was "okay" for God and Angels and Jesus and whatnot to use magic, but not okay for humans to. The fallen angels etc.

Christians.
But maybe that's because I have yet to meet a scientologist that convinced me he actually believed in his bullshit. And if you do well, you're just stupid. Might as well believe Star Wars really happened.
Christians on the other hand, are evil motherfuckers and from what I can tell some of them even believe in the shit they spew. The religion has been here long enough for some people never to have a choice beside it. From child indoctrination (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LACyLTsH4ac), stunting scientific growth, sexual/racial discrimination, allowing slavery (but don't covet them, then it's all cool) all the way to wide spread brain washing... these fuckers take the cake. Need to be wiped out.

"Yes."

Ah, and I love how women complain that christian men are traditionally chauvanistic (spelling?)... of course they are... women screwed up the human race by giving into temptation!
Or you can figure that we just are an experiment, a plaything... there was a good short book on that whole idea... I need to find that again...

Hmm...
Maybe the question should be... since Scientology is based upon a book (by a well known writer who also writes a lot of Science Fiction), and Christianity is based upon a book (who we really don't know the original author of), could they essentially be the same?

I voted Christians.
Both are magic fairy tale stories but one has been around much longer and thus is "normal" while the other is "crazy." Scientology goes after people through the law who criticize them but how many people were burned at the stake for heresy over the years? Throw in the crusades, years of serfdom, little boy raping, and on and on and this is the easiest vote in the world. The people who voted scientologists are either lazy and only thought about recent law suits or just plain stupid.

Amazed is more the right word. Sure these Scientology guys are totally fucking cuckoo but are you people aware of what Christianity has done, is doing and wants to do to the world?
Not that I'm basing this out of the votes of 20 people but I guess it will be a long time before humanity rids itself of the detrimental cesspool that is Christianity.

I cant stand when Xtians say that some disaster happened to a country due to that countries sin....(Fallwell claiming the hurricane in New Orleans was due to USA sin)
I hate it even more when Tom Cruise goes on TV or on some national mag and says that people who take depression pills are wrong for doing it.....b/c you know.....Tom's been there....he knows all....

I really don't think any sort of christian at all should be exempted when you talk about them. Either you believe in magic sky dude or you don't. And if you do, that includes believing in that really cool, whacky last chapter of his book, you know, the one where it says the world is going to end in a massive apocalypse of death, pain, plague, suffering and destruction. But it's a good thing and they are looking forward to it, because then they'll finally meet jeebus. Having even moderate christians believing this shit is just plain dangerous, especially when some of them make their way to seats of power in countries wielding nuclear power.
To quote the oh so wise Bill Hicks, "[These people] have had their finger on the fucking button for 12 years, 'tell me when lord, tell me when, help me be your servant, lord!'"
Selective christianity, where they believe the nice parts, but not the evil shit, is hypocrisy at its worst. These moderates simply don't have the balls to go either one way or another. They take the easy route, and "believe" in it just enough to fit in but not enough to seem like the fucking psychos.
Down with 'em all, tbh.

This thread is a testament to relativism. Christianity clearly beats Scientology in every way, but because it's so 'normal' while Scientology is 'new and abnormal', people make the mistake of viewing them as exactly that.
- Christianity is more ridiculous than Scientology; in fact, you cannot find anything more ridiculous than Judeo-Christianity. Just not possible. The premise, purpose, and conclusion is as if somebody made up the most ridiculous idea fathomable and rolled with it. We just don't see this because it's so 'normal' for us. I mean, c'mon, sin? Sky daddy killing himself to save us from the sin he gave us? WTFFFFFFFFFFff
- Christianity even wins the legal issues. Scientology tries to sue people for saying they're a joke, while Christianity has been fighting in courts since the beginning of courts. Take creationism/ID for example: for decades they've been spouting the same disproven and overruled bullshit, but they keep coming back into the education and court system over and over and over. Go on youtube and search venomfangx and tell me there exists a single Scientologist as crazy and gung ho as this guy. Plus you can blame Christianity on 'illegal poker', not Scientology
- And obv Christianity wins the evil, oppression issue

The question is a rather basic "Which are worse" though, so it's up to some interpretation. I sense some are taking the question to mean "which group's beliefs are more ludicrous", others see it as "which group annoys me more when they spout off" and still others interpret it in other ways, "which are more harmful to society", "which group is uglier" etc.
A general term for most religious groups like Christians, Jews, or Muslims evokes moderates and fanatics alike. Scientology, however, has an extremely fanatical following and since personally I find fanaticism distasteful, I think the average Scientologist is surely more annoying to me. Focus on the most devout in each population though, and Christians would no doubt be more annoying to listen to.
