Just a quote from the "parting thoughts" thread. I didn't want to post there because that thread is supposed to be specific to Ripptyde's leaving and nothing else.

I wanted to mention that respect is earned in this forum, not given for nothing. I wasn't respected right away when I first got here, no one is. It took months for me to gain respect, and it will take all new people the same amount of time.
Most of the people here try to welcome all new members and we try to make everyone part of the community. Post here enough, ask enough questions, talk to enough people, and soon you (or any new member) won't feel "left out" anymore. I don't think it's fair to say that we "ignore" or "dismiss" newer members, we try not to do this. Like I said, those who post often and contribute intelligent thought to the forums will be highly respected and will more easily fit into the community.
If any of the new members feel that they've been treated unfairly or if they feel that someone was rude to them, please PM me, another mod, or Xianti about it. We want to keep FTR full of friendly and intelligent poker discussion, and we want everyone to feel welcome.

I've gotten replys on all but one of my Hand History threads and i'm one of the newest guys here.
I will say the advice can be a bit blunt at times but a little tough love can't hurt when it comes to poker.
Overall i've had a very good experience thus far here and most if not all of the members have been very helpful and depsite the fact that there is way too much melodrama lateley this is my new favorite forum on the internet.

The internet is all about drama, everywhere. Not just here.
It's something you really have to deal with as it comes along, but it isn't that big of a deal. Yeah, we are all in some ways immature. Some of us more then others, but that's how it is in life as well.
I think a big problem is this community is a little bit over-reactent to the arguing... Maybe i'm not used to being around people who expect each other to behave like adults as much as FTR does. (Probabley because the avg age here is higher then your general internet community.)
And i'm rambling I belive. So yeah thats the end of this post. :P

Respect as a poker player and Respect as a person.
2 different things
Everyone should have Respect for each other as a person, this should be implied and given freely. Once you have proven that you are not worthy of respect as a person then it should be removed.
Respect as poker player. Just because a Person is "new" to the forums does not mean they are a "new" player.
A certain Respect should be applied everywhere. Once that is achieved then all the BS that flies around will stop. If you don't agree with an idea, simply state, "I don't agree with ##### because #####"

I was gonna make a comment about alternative ways to gain respect, such ass posing in pictures in a ftr thong. However I feel that it might be taken the wrong way, and I wouldnt want that. Courtie knows I <3 her. Well I guess I said it anyways eh? Oh well, take it as you will.
