I'm trying to rent a apartment in London through craigslist for the wsopE and ept london and I'm worried about getting scammed. I'm in contact with a guy who a) is renting his place out for pretty damn cheap and b) wants to do a western union transfer to get him the money. How do i assure that I don't get scammed here?

I hate to shamelessly plug my company, but I do know a lot of people who have bad experiences with craigslist in the UK.
Try going through a reputable direct to owner rental place - and since an opportunity is an opportunity, check out my site, sent in PM to you. We have a few apartments up for rent in London that might be an acceptable price for you during WSOPE and all are guaranteed legit.

I have no interest in discussing strategy with a protege'. Your job is to remain quiet and listen. I have a very systematic approach that I will share with the right candidate and I promise that I will turn you into a force of nature and show you elements of the game of poker that you never knew existed.

anything that involves western union money overseas to someone you don't know and don't necessarily trust is usually bad.
and when I say usually, I mean like 98% usually. Sooooo -ev to do this.

'cheap' and 'london' in same sentence.
does not compute.
be careful.

Yeah this sounds like a scam to me.
The property rental sector in this city is booming. A quick search under 'short term lets London' brings up dozens of legitimate companies who I'm sure can meet your needs.
Otherwise if you must use a listings site, be very very careful. I don't 100% agree with M2M - it is possible to find some good deals in London, but as a general rule of thumb, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Yeah, turns out it was probably a scam. I'm just gonna move on and take no risks. Hopefully I can find something instead of having to stay in a hotel.

This is such an awesome idea. I wish I were in a position to make such an offer, but alas no spare room.

Tell him you want to meet up with him first to see the place or that a friend of yours can meet him to have a look at it. See what he does.

obvious scam is obvious. Why put anymore time or effort into the pursuit of this nonexistent apartment?

True, but his response might be entertaining.
OP, further to the suggestion of finding a FTR member have you considered couch-surfing?
