Heya all,

I haven't been around long, and I ain't no Boondock swooping thru the sky, but I am entering a major life event.

I am coming up on 39 years old this Nov 30th, and i am an alcoholic. After two DUIs, two minor in possessions, and nine public intox charges, I have finally...

FINALLY

come to the tipping point, and in my own head decided to check myself into rehab.

This is a major turning point in my life, and i am happy to say I have some tearful friends that have just been waiting for me to make this call .. and they are driving me whereever i need to go.

to quote a friend of mine that quit when he was 56 yrs old... "I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired".

So, hopefully they gots internet where I am going, I dunno yet. Will keep you all posted. Love you all.

hahahahaha - well if you want to be just like boondock minus the accident - let me know when you are done with all of this and we can make some jumps. The doctor says I still cant jump till the end of december roughly because there is still a pretty good crack in my leg but I cant wait to get back in the sky.

Noticed your location is very close to me.

Thanks for all the well wishes. Here's a progress report.

Well, I didn't really have things all planned out, but Monday morning my buddies and I called a few places and the concensus recommendation was to check in to an emergency room for medically supervised detox. So that's exactly what I did.

I spose it was the anxiety, but when I got there my blood pressure was something crazy like 212 over 120, so they put me under observation and fed me some blood pressure meds and some valium to calm me down. Moved up to the detox floor after a few hours and spent two nights there. Got through it with not too much trouble.

Got released yesterday with some new scripts. Going on some blood pressure meds, started on Zoloft for anxiety (I used to take Paxil a while back) and a new one called Campral, which is supposed to keep the cravings in check.

As for treatment, I am going to a facility on Monday for an evaluation and will either be doing an in-patient program where I stay, or an intensive out-patient program where I go for several hours every day for group and 1-1 counseling, etc.

Haven't had a drink since Sun night, so this is day 4 and counting =)

Will keep you all posted.

dont know yah, but healthy livers are +ev and its good to see youve recognized it. I think the alchy gene skipped me, it kinda runs in the family, but I had my fun living the college life during high school, now I dont really have much of a taste for liqour. Ill drink some beer here and there, but most people my age are running around guzzling everything they can get thier hands on. Sadly a lot of these people are prone to addiction. Hopefully some kids that are in college now will take a look at this and realize binge drinking is NOT a good past time to get into.

anyways, good luck 'n get 'er dun

Heya all, thanks for the kind words. Time for an update.

I have 14 days of sobriety under my belt and its going well. Have completed my first 5 days of intensive outpatient treatment, meeting M-F for 4 hours a day with a Wed night meeting to boot. The program also has me going to four AA meetings (no that's not a pair of Aces, hehe) per week, I did two last week and will hit my four this week.

Been getting lots of exercise and trying to eat better. Taking my meds, and a follow up appt with my regular doctor about my blood pressure (still a little high).

The really good news is I'm off work on short-term disability with full pay for up to 90 days. That means I still have time for poker =)

Will keep y'all posted.

Update!!

Glad to still be hanging around FTR. Thought I would drag this up for a little different flavor in the commune, and to let you guys know I'm doing well.

129 days of sobernessariety. Feels great, and my game is much better

I'm not doing AA, I just can't get gung-ho about it. I'm doing many other things to heal and "be well", some of them very simple, yet satisfying. I am eating much better and exercising. I'm reading a lot about alcoholism and brain chemistry. I got a deep tissue massage with aromatherapy the other day. I started piano lessons this week. I put a bird feeder on the porch and watch my cats watch the birds. I hiked the trail that runs along the river. Stuff like that. Its working for me.

Thanks again for all the earlier support, every bit helped back in the first few weeks.

My mom went through alcohol detox and I know what you're going through. Avoid all enablers (people or places that would drive you to drink), and at your first sign of feeling a compulsion to drink, call somebody you know
take your ego out of the equation and judge the situation dispassionately

Hope its OK to bump this and not get strikeified by Xianti for bumping old threads. But the "Do not bump old threads" thread has been bumped too recently.

Anyway, was talking to vcq on AIM the other night and he thought it would be a good time for an update.

8 MONTHS SOBER!!!!!!!

Still struggling a bit with it, and had to take a little more time off work, but absolutely zero drinks since Nov 13th of last year. Feeling pretty damn good.

Am lurking more than posting around here, but I still hang out and read while sipping coffee from my groovy FTR mug, wearing my FTR shirt, and looking at pictures of courtibee's FTR thong.

Just wanted to let y'all know, esp those who remember my first post.

Peace
