I'll sign it. But what do I know. I'll sign a banana if you put an X and a line on it.
I don't know what they have to say
It makes no difference anyway.
Whatever it is...
I'm against it.

Does that name really offend you guys?

I'm not a fan of heavy-handed adminning or censorship. Unless people are using blatant swear words in their names, I'm hesitant about banning them.

If it is really bothering any of you, I could ask him to change it.

I would never ask him to change his name. I'm not a fan of censoring and I believe that you can say / do pretty much whatever you want.

However, I do look at stuff like lickmynuts and "Watch where you set your drink, I just nutted all over the place." and I think, well that's unneccesary.

On the subject of offensive, I saw this kid wearing the most offensive thing. In big letters on the back of his shirt, it said, "Jesus was a cunt." I have thought about this phrase. It is the most offensive thing I have ever heard in my life. It makes lickmynuts sound like baby talk.

what about asking him to change it? The more I think about it isn't as if it is a clever pun or anything. really lickmynuts a little juvenal, huh Beavis

I guy at work has a shirt hanging in his cube that says:

Let's fuck it up my way this time

Thought that was pretty funny. Lickmynuts is kind of like the Jesus shirt there isn't a point it is smartass for the sake of being a smartass

I think it’s ridiculous that he was made to change his name, this is an adult forum (after all poker online has an min age) and we have had plenty of ‘holding the nutz’ comments.

I thought this whole thread was a joke when I read it first, I was amazed that he was forced to change his name.

Surely photo’s of ladies like we have on here too could be deemed just as offensive, not that I mind them of course, except when my boss walks behind my desk.

He wasn't made to change it. He was asked by Xianti and he obliged.

There need to be some reasonable bounds to what is appropriate to preserve the flavor of this site. One of the things that makes this such a good place to hang out is the mix of good poker info, the humor and the variety of other interesting stuff. Its cool that this has sort of just developed without heavy handed censoring. I think its a good thing that we're allowed to steer that a little bit.

Its also cool that people who object to something state it and everyone listens. If "lickmynutz" was the kind of guy who said, "Screw you, I don't care what other members think, thats my name, so lick my nuts", then we probably wouldn't want him here anyway.

I wonder if thats his handle when he plays? My six year old step-daughter is proud of her new reading skills, and she watches me play poker on line. She goes around the table and reads the nicknames and some of them get a good laugh from her (like FatButt, which she asks about everytime I'm on line), "Hey, is FatButt playing?"

I'm not saying we need to censor the major poker sites or anything, but I'm just waiting to see what her mom says when she starts asking about "lickmynutz".
"Limit poker is a science, but no-limit is an art..."

Well I guess it's a moot point since he's agrred to change the name already, but although childish, I really doubt it was meant to be offensive.

I see it as a pun that backfired. Oh well.

All I can say though is be careful, don't set too many precedents. Next thing you know people will be offended by beautiful bottoms and, BANG!!, no more Fishstick thong avatars. That's the beauty of our group. We're pretty much on a loose leash and for the most part keep things clean.

There was one other forum I belonged to. It was a car forum, and one day somone decided they were offended by people putting pictures of themselves for avatars. Their reasoning was that because people were telling each other how cute so and so was. It was turning what was a car forum, into a dating dorum. Well long story short. People started to be offended about what that person had. And it all just snowballed. People were complaining about other people just for spite. Mind you, we're were all supposedly "adults". Finally the admins laid down the ultimate laws, and the forum became less fun, and lost alot of members.

Big Lick

xbones, and others:

I sympathize. Like I said earlier, I really detest censorship. I resisted even asking him to change his name, but decided to oblige the concerns of some here. I can't please everyone. Perhaps I should have gone with my own gut instincts. That name didn't offend me personally.

This will not be a precedent. I can assure you of that.

I can see both heatmans and Fyrfytrs points, and they are both good one.

I am smack in the middle.

On one side, I see lickmynutz and think it's just juvenile and unneccessary. I can't say that I'm offended by it. It's just stupid.

On the other side I don't want to censor anyone. This is an adult forum and I've seen much worse things written here. It's very true what Fyfytr said. If we start here, what's next?

I went to another web site and signed up. I put in my name as Humphrind and they denied it. They said they could not accept a name with the banned word "hump" in it. Humphrind is a name I made up. It has nothing to do with humping. Oh well, their site, their rules.

I think Xianti solved this in the perfect way. Xianti never told him that he had to change it. He simply said that some weren't a big fan of the name and nutz was very helpful.

Good job Xianti!

interesting, interesting!

i detest any form of censorship, and you should all know by now that i'm not overly uptight (except when i'm wearing my FTR thong - it's chafing! ).

i would make two points:

1. the FTR crew (xianti, tyson, eric) have made a forum available to a group of internet poker enthusiasts. while this is a "public" forum, as far as i'm concerned, it's their house, therefore, i will respect their rules. if i don't like the rules, i can leave.

2. i have no idea whether said FTR crew have any commercial aspirations for the site, but if so, certain things could compromise that. once again, it's their house, i appreciate being invited, and will gladly abide by the rules.

we have a lot of freedom here, and i'm sure no one meant to be offensive. the admins here are doing a great job, and i don't see a problem with them making a respectful request if they think something's debatable.

i'll leave the podium now.
i hate what i have become to escape what i hated being...

LOL, rippy, what the?!

Ok, well I think that Xianti handled it fine, and our house rules, if you guys haven't really noticed, are what we all agree on as a community.

You'll notice that we take polls, ask opinoins, I mean this place is for all of us, I think Xianti's action was a fair compromise.
