Jyms/Spenda I need some assistance
Im a terrible person and I haven't even started with the working out.. I hate the fact that I posted the getting jacked thread probably a month or so ago and I have done nothing for my health as of yet. Once I sell the p.o.s bowflex and get some actual weights I will be 100% ready to go.
Yeah, it sounds like im making excuses. Judge me in a couple weeks if I am still not doing anything, until then trust that I am on top of things.
Anyways.. creatine is confusing me. I originally bought a bottle of 120 kre-alkalyin (something close) creatine pills each with 750mg of kre-creatine or something. Havent busted them open as Im not working out
ebay.. bought 1 kilo of pure micronized creatine.
Went into GNC today and picked up 1.5 kilos of cell-tech stuff. i pretty much got sold into it from the guy there. I always forget that they are salespeople.. im not sure if this is the right stuff of me. Im pretty sure its just 75g of sugar and 10g of creatine monohydrate.
I can return whatever, i meant to return the pills to GNC and just inquire about the protein i bought (I bought some natural ON protein from GNC and I hated it.. I also have some double chocolate stuff apparently its much much better and so i am happy)
I figured I *could* just try different creatines and see how they work for me. But if anyone knows whats tops. I think the celltech could be a bit excessive and not really need it :P

If you are new to working out, you don't even need creatine. You should see great results without it. From my experience the pills don't work as well as the powder. I would recommed cell tech or something similar that has taurine and dextros in it. Take it (or some form of sugar) after your workout , then wait 15 minutes and take your whey protein mixed with water. I think creatine is a bit overrated personally, and i would recommend glutamine before creatine, but everyone has different opinions.
The main thing is to realize that its the consistency of your workouts and overall nutrition that is most important. Supplements (other than protein powder) are just that SUPPLEMENTS. They are only there to help with the process.

bigred maybe i am copping myself out, I just believe that I need to get this going the right way. Im giving myself some time to do that.. im probably my biggest critic anyways. Thanks though and I don't mean that to be snarky or sarcastic.
Wesr - My question was really about if cell tech was necessary, I could probably get the insulin spike with some pure creatine monhydrate mixed in some fruit juice, Im not cheap i just don't want to spend money on things that arent necessary.
Workouts will be every other day, with good nutrition (good vegetables, unsat fats, protein, lots of water) and proper supplementation.

Doesn't hurt to burn some calories now...
As long as you don't injure yourself, it doesn't hurt to start with anything. Hell, do pushups.

It promotes healing and prevents muscle burning. Why not with creatine?

I use GATEORADE ..lol. I buy the tins for like $3 or $4 and mix whatever i might have in it. The only bad thing about it is the sodium, but the way i sweat i'm not too worried about it. So no, celltech isn't necessary.
A good thing to do is buy 2 kind of Protein Powder, one with just whey isolates for after a workout, and one with a mix of whey, egg and cassein for the other shakes you have during the day. Whey is fast and egg and cassein are slow release proteins.
Another tip is to eat cottage cheese during the day and or at bed time. It's full of glutamine and is cassein protein which is released very slowly into the system.
Also don't forget about fiber. A high protein diet is often lacking in fiber and can cause some problems. I would and do buy fiber husks. A couple teaspoons per day in a shake is great for you (not after a workout though).
Good luck, and don't be too hard on yourself. It takes years to really improve and sometimes seems like nothing is happening. Also don't just listen to what other "naturally gifted" people do and copy them. Everyone is different and responds differently.

LOL.. this will just depress you, make it like every couple months.
Changes will not come as quickly as you want, and you will never be happy regardless.
I would concentrate on improving your health and fitness levels, not just your physique.

Here's what I put in my shakes:
50g of high-glyemic (simple) carbohydrates (think pure sugar)
15-20g of protein
5 g creatine
5 g glutamine
vitamin B/C/E

This is good for post workout.
I shoot more for like 30-40 grams of protein.
For other times i would use some version of this recipee (alter to your taste):
Protein Powder
Milk ( milk is 20% whey and 80% cassein)
Fruit (mixed berries, bannanas etc.) or juice
Peanut butter
2 or 3 eggs
1 or 2 tablespoons of fiber husks
Yogurt
Also make sure you eat 4 or 5 meals per day (shakes included) which works out to approximately every 3 hours. This will keep your metabolism burning and keep your muscles fueled.

yea, that was the post work out shake
pre is somewhat similar, just less carbs/protein but maintaining a similar ratio of the 2.
wersman, any more protein and you're just wasting it.
Rediak, about your original question, I'll like Jim answer, he's a lot more knowledgeable about that stuff than I am.

40 grams of protein after a workout is standard.
You have to realize that not all of it will get into your system.
Some of it gets broken down and elimated.
You want to make sure your muscles have all the amino acids they need at this critical time. So it's better to have too much (within reason), then it is to have to little.
I definately would take at least 30 grams post exercise. This will also help you reach your goal of 1 gram of protein/1 pound of body weight per day.
