In all seriousness, is anyone else listening to the in progress hardcore history on WWI? Jesus fucking Christ what a brutal war. It's interesting how the state of technology basically created the brutality. The trench warfare stalemate that came from the strong machine gun defense created so much fucking misery.

Ww1 was just horrific. Even more so when you consider the lack of real information that people had before signing up and therefore their expectations of what they'd find compared to the brutal reality. Lots of them were just young boys getting blown up and massacred with no real idea of what the fuck they were getting into, no real idea of what to do and often spending a short miserable existence of pure terror before a horrible painful death.

It's funny how everyone thought it would be over quick, and then when it wasn't, and everyone was burning through troops at absurd rates, pretty much everyone started lowering requirements for the army and starting aggressive recruiting campaigns (or conscription).

Why was WWI called the Great War? Surely WWII, with it's use of nuclear weapons, was way better.

WW1 pretty much matured the world, it caused the feudal europe with its nobility bullshit and the very segmented world where every country just did its own thing and the US was pretty isolationist to enter what we call the modern times. WW2 then showed us how destructive we can get if we overdo it. After that the leaders of the world all came together and etched out the world that we live in today. This was after WW1 and refined after WW2.

Russia has a poor economy? Russia's debt is 7.7% of GDP, compared to 70% for USA. USA also has the higher unemployment rate. The American economy is in much worse shape due to the massive amount of debt. The only reason the American economy hasn't already collapsed is because oil is traded in dollars, which allows America to print off money without a care. But that won't go on forever. Russia is the world's leading oil producer, the 2nd largest gas producer, has the largest gas reserves, the 2nd largest coal reserves, and the 8th largest crude oil reserves. Russia are doing just fine. America are only doing fine as long as the can continue to force other nations to trade in dollars.

I'm going to try to volunteer as a my 7 yo's soccer coach due to a lack of involvement from other parents. Although I tend to be all hippy-dippy, lets all just try hard and have fun... I also have a brutal distaste for losing. This should be fun.

If being intoxicated means you can't give consent, buying something while drunk means the seller stole from you and getting a lift while drunk means you've been kidnapped |

I think the idea that drunk consent can't be given is borne out of a desire to stop the situation where college chicks get black out drunk at a frat party and wake up with pants around ankles. That is a problem, but addressing it through consent is the wrong way to try to solve it. |

There is a line. And that line is closer to black out than it is buzzed. If I were too drunk to take care of myself, I'd rely on others to keep me set.

Well since this is basically a blog thread, today my damned kid (read: me) forgot his bag, but instead of immediately going home to get it, I decided to return the goddamned wall mounts for the network jacks I purchased from ye olde local home theater shoppe for the network cable I just ran around my new house. You see, they sold me the wrong mounts, even tho they also sold me the jacks

If Scotland are stupid enough to put their trust in a man who can't even tell them what currency they'll use in the event of a yes vote, then fuck them. England will manage just fine without them. It's an inconvenience for us because we'll have to move our nukes out of Scotland, and probably set up a proper border, but England won't collapse without the Scots. Scotland might or might not survive alone. They have plenty of oil, so they're not in bad shape. Still, their population is small, the weather is even fucking worse than ours, and so is the food. Tourism isn't exactly going to thrive there. They have golf and a pretend monster. Good fucking luck with that.
