How long did it take you to set up phpBB?
I was also wondering how do you set up those links to amazon, i assume you get small % of the purchase price if we buy it from the link.
Thank you.

Eric was actually the one to install phpBB (he's the programmer).
I did the forum structuring and continually work on the layout.
If you want to know the technical details from Eric, you'd have a better chance of getting a reply if you PM him, !Luck.

Setting up the initial forum was simple. The phpBB2 code is free so it is as simple as loading some files onto the server and changing some configuration options. I'd say it took about an hour or two to get it up and partially customized(but I'm a programmer so it might take longer for someone who isn't technical). Xianti completed the setup by making new topics, organizing threads, setting up groups/ranks and doing everything else to get it looking the way it does now(this is an ongoing process that he works on practically every day(he's basically the only moederator we have)).

Tyson setup most of the Amazon links(we're in their affilate program so we get a small percentage of purchases). We put them in place to help cover costs for running the site(hosting fees, domain name registration etc.). Amazon isn't a big money maker for us but it helps a little bit.

Thank you for your reply. The reason I asked, if you care, was that I was thinking of setting up a book exchange program at my school. I looked into it and I found out that hosting fees are pretty low 3.95. The cost for one year, from my basic research, amounts to my budget on jimmy johns subs. I have some basic c++ knowledge. Do you think I am missing a major cost? Chances are I will not do it, but this information is helpful to me. So I thank you once again for the poker and technical knowledge I was able to gain here.

!Luck,
You could setup a message board for the book exchange program. It should be fairly easy for you since you know c++. The $3.95 hosting sounds cheap but what does it get you? You need to factor in Disk Space, Bandwidth, Number of mysql databases, PHP and other factors in choosing a host. Using the phpBB2 board requires PHP(not all hosts offer it) and one mysql database.
