It's sad if you don't see that blatant prejudice against people who are different is common occurrence nearly everywhere. I've lived in Raleigh, Charlotte and Winston-Salem, three of the four or five biggest cities in the state, and it's been the same. It's not a question of location at all, and it truly saddens me for people to blow it off as such.

I always thought that racist means someone with the belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race. Well, I agree that racism is world-wide, but location does affect it somewhat. For example, the area I used to live in was fairly well mixed among a number of different races. The inherent racism was surprising worse or at least more visible than the area I live in now, which has basically two races in it (based on kids in my daughters class) and the racism is much less apparent, though I am sure there is still some there.
I think that might even be backwards of what is to be expected though also...

Suppose there was a computer program that randomly typed out letters and it continued indefinitely. Eventually it would type the word "nigger" and so I guess that program would be racist.

Now that I think about it, maybe not. Say you have a group of 10 people, 5 of which are race A and 5 of which are race B. Then the racial "lines" seem to be a big more evident just from the numbers. But say you had a black American, a white American, a Mexican, an American Indian, an Indian, and an albino Australian. I would think it would be harder to create much racial tension because all [most] social interaction would be with people sufficiently different.

i was born and raised and lived my entire life in western washington and ive never even once witnessed a discriminatory act from white on black, or white on any minority for that matter.
i have, however, witnessed a few black on white discriminatory events. they were all pretty much harmless, but the perpetrator acted with base in the belief that the white man was getting him down. this isnt typical though. most of the minorities around here never suggest they feel oppressed. the contrary, most suggest they think its all fine. there are the small handful though that have curiously gone overboard with their illusions about white racists up here. but like i said its pretty much all harmless stuff.
seriously, its way different up here in seattle area. granted, i have never spent any large amount of time in the worst areas, but by that i mean the absolute worst.
one of three events that comes to mind (this is one that i dont actually consider the person displaying racism because i know he wasnt racist, he just thought that i was apparently). so at work i told a watermelon/black joke which a black guy overheard (this was following him telling a gin/black joke). he blew his lid, verbally equated me with KKK, he threatened to get transferred or quit or get all the bosses involved after telling my boss, then my boss (who was black) had a chat with me, he was confused to begin with because he knew i wasn't racist, i told him the joke, he thought it was funny.
a month or so later the guy who blew his lid (whom i had profusely apologized to) discovered that im sexually attracted to black women. he then told me that had he known that he wouldnt' have thought i meant anything racist by my joke.
so yea, big misunderstanding here, nothing actually racist. thats the type of stuff you find up here.

I've been fortunate growing up on the aspect of racism. My TN town is like 100% opposite of what you would expect a small rural TN town to be. We have a population of about 5k-6k, with an equal distribution of whites to blacks. Idk what it is, but I've rarely encountered racism at all. There are a very few whites that I know of who are racist, but it's not extreme. They would just rather just mingle with anyone else. And there are about an equal number of blacks that have the same feelings. But other than that the town is rather intergrated. Just thought I would throw that out, because I'm bored.

Alright look, it doesnt matter what marklar marklar use. I say "that is so marklar" all the time, meaning marklar. Does this mean i think marklar marklar are marklar? NO! But for some marklar, marklar give so much marklar to marklars like marklar and marklar that all of a sudden it doesnt matter what marklar they are in, it doesnt matter how marklar are marklared cuz obviously they are marklar! Nevermind the fact that marklars are used out of the marklar based marklars all the time, for example, marklar. marklar dont mean marklar, wtm does that marklar? It means marklar in the context of marklar but apparently im still marklaring about marklar.

Right after I moved to Raleigh, I worked at a major computer retail store for about 9 months when I was 19-20 years old or so. The store had nearly an all-black employee base, except for me, a Chinese guy named Son, and an all-white team of managers.
I worked there for about 6-7 weeks and was promoted to the head of my position and had these three guys who reported to me, though our job wasn't particularly difficult, mostly bitch-work like restocking and building displays and carrying shit.
I was promoted because of my work ethic and that I could be counted on to get things done, while the three guys who I was working over couldn't be bothered to give a shit. They were really horrible employees.
So there I was, the 19 year old white kid who was telling three black guys aged somewhere from 25 to 35 what to do less than two months after I started working there. All anyone saw was the race situation, and that I was so obviously promoted because I was white.
