Do you believe they stem from what our parents teach us as children or from adulthood?

Reason I am asking this is because on my way to work today on the subway, a teacher got on with like 15 little children all about 7 yrs old.
They were all different races and came from different backgrounds, yet they were getting along, having fun, singing together.

And I just sat there and had this very peaceful moment about life. And it dawned on me that all these hangups in the world have to come from some bullshit source, I look at these children playing on the subway having fun, they don't hate each other because they are different, they don't lust for polictical power, land, money...

Why does that kind of shit have to exist, if it doesn't exist when we are young? I mean during our youth is where we are shaped into adults, so why not stopped this shit at the source?

Education. Education. Education.

Those group of 15 kids are being well-educated (evident by the mere fact that a teacher is taking them somewhere together) and as such are the type of kids unlikely to harbor racist sentiments.

Contrast this with a group of inner-city youth.

Little kids dont know what racism is, someone has to teach them to be racist.

Family, friends and enviroment are all things that can "teach" racism.

For the majority of my friends who have shown any inclination towards racism (I don't keep too many of them) 99% of the time their racist beliefs have come from their father figure. I think parenting is the number one thing that shapes a child.

its not always the parents fault really. Or it could be thier fault but in weird ways. An extreme case would be some really charitable parents who enjoyed giving, and on xmas they would go volunteer and hand out presents to less fortunate children. They would bring thier son along, and because they enjoyed it they never thought that he would not like it. But infact he is jealous of the attention his parents are giving to other kids and inturn grows to despise the poverisehd kids, who might happen to be minorities.

I know its kinda far fetched, but its just an example showing that the kids dad isnt always a KKK member. Also there is a lot of hidden racism that exist in our society. A freind of mine has these really niec parents and they never treat me any different then any of his other freinds. I really like both of his parents. However they are the white people who will talk about equality and peace and all this, yet they live on thier side of town and keep to their own. You know what I mean? Its like they mean well, but something in them just keeps a wall between them and minorities. Another thing with them, they ahve another son who has mostly dated white girls. His 2 most recent girlfreinds have been minorities. And my freind told me that his parents are like cool with him dating them but he says he can see in thier faces that its like "well thats cool, but I hope he isnt thinking of marrying them or anything."

if you want a blunt opinion, here's something to consider about racism and college. black students are let into college with lower grades/everything than a white student needs. i don't hold that against every black student I see, but it naturally creates feelings of resentment, and that can't help but be expressed somewhat generally. am i wrong for this resentment?
i betcha that i got something you ain't got, that's called courage, it don't come from no liquor bottle, it ain't scotch

Not at all, I don't even like that aspect, because that creates two problems for me.

1. The treatment isn't fair, why treat another better than the other?
2. It's saying to me that blacks NEED this kind of treatment just to get ahead and I as a black guy feel I should get in off the merits of my hard work just like the white guy.

This is another reason I don't support affirmative action.
