More precisely, the brits
I was in a Gears game today and there were a few brits playing. Being the polite person I am I decided to fuck with them and said "oh man, I love austrailians! Put another shrimp on the barbie! You guys are great! Dingo ate my baby!"
They called me the usual wanker and what not, but what stood out is one guy kept saying "Go fuck yourself you french speaking dumbass canadian"
Are canadians a joke in europe too?

Its because not many people like the french so if you have a connection with them, some people will start slagging off. I usally laugh specially when i get a 15 yr old american kid saying to me " You want your tea and crumpets, god bless the queen". Other than that i have good laugh with everyone.

To answer your question, Canadians are defitively not the topic of every other joke [we have each other to joke about] like in the US. We dont know much about them and have a general tendency to think of them as weird frenchies (take a french nobody from 300 years ago, stick him in the middle of nowhere for that amount of time and anyone is bound to devellop some form of weirdness).
However, that particular person you cite must either be very aggressive in general or must have had a bad personal experience with a canadian because that reaction is certainly not the first anyone else would have [in UK, or Europe].

Brits hate each other as well - northerners hate southerners, the welsh and irish hate the english, the mancunians hate the scousers, a small minority of whites hate pakistanis, etc etc
