Oh come on, it's capitalized so it's a name, and the"H" is pronouced.
If it's "herbs and spices", the "h" is silent.

"I am sorry to have to tell you, Dan, that the American pronunciation of this word ("urb") is the correct one. English borrowed this word from the French, who did not pronounce the "h," in a manner similar to the words honor, hour, and heir. The English restored the voiced "h" at some point, when they added the voiced "h" back to other French-derived words, such as humble and human. (Donald Trump didn't get the memo about this, but Americans pronounce those h's, too.)"
from some random blog I found, which makes it an authority on these matters.

Damn, rilla beat me to it. It tilts me greatly when French words get Anglicized. It's FOYER (foi'ā), dammit, not FOY'YER.
As a man's name, however, it's always Herb with the H pronounced.

Wikipedia has this as a pronunciation difference between Engish and American English. " 'erb" sounds so bizarre..

it might well have originally been French. But the English use the H. So if you speak English, use the H.
And if the French want to argue about it, we'll just have to invade them again....

and colour, amirite? My point was just that having an H doesn't demand the use of said H as wilbur was adamant about.
brits, I understand the shock of being so wrong and not even having the slightest understanding of how that possible. I sympathize, but you're gonna have to get used to it. You guys still have a royal family after all.

the beauty of English is that it is fucked up and it confuses the shit out of foreigners. or it gets dumbed down....
So when I say "theres an H there use it" - do just that.
with words like honour - theres an H there. But don't use it. DUC? And there's also a u there....
You can't question the English on how to spell or speak English!
Bit like the French adding letters they never use (like too many s' when there is no plural) - yes it's fking stupid (like most things French) but it's their language!
And I think you're jealous of the royal family. Deep down you want a load of posh nonces, getting a pile of your hard earned taxes and to do nothing but swan around waving at jealous American tourists all day....

lol. Rilla, I pretty much agree with you and we're making the same point to a degree.
What's interesting is that the pilgrims took the language to America. Different pronounciations are natural but different spellings - what the fuck is up with that?
