In 10 days i'm leaving for uni, and i've just found out that i'm not allowed to get a separate account from a different ISP(or even the same ISP) and that i have to use the uni's network. However, it is against the rules to use the network for "personal profit" which is pretty much what poker is, and i doubt the sysadmins would look kindly at me being connected to partypoker 4 hours/day, 7 day/week.
I'm sure some of you have stumbled into such roadblocks at some point or another. How do i get around it? Please FTR help me continue playing poker

I don't have experience with this problem, but here are a couple ideas off the top of my head:

1. Give it a shot. There a number of reasons why you might get away with it. Maybe the sysadmins don't closely monitor where thet traffic goes to/comes from, or maybe the sysadmins just don't care if students are playing poker. Remember, the sysadmins != school admins. And maybe "personal profit" also has a technical definition used by the school that doesn't encompass playig poker.

2. Connect to a proxy server, and from there connect to a poker network.

Most of the time if you abuse the rules and get caught, you'll get a slap on the wrist and told to stop doing it. If there's a friendly sysadmin, maybe you could ask him what the unoffical line is?

The easy way to avoid "the rules" would be to have someone else buy you a dialup account and you dial into it. But yeah, dialup.

I haven't used anything else but my uni connection to play poker. It's like someone else said, just do it.. if you get caught, apologize bla bla. I've been slapped on the wrist numerous times with never any long term penalties. Once I got banned a few days for port-scanning (I was trying to find an open port to upload with mirc through but I'm too noob and the security is here is airtight).. another time me and 6 friends were banned from the internet for a week (yeah they were all kinda pissed but whatever) because I had been using multiple accounts to increase my download limit. Another time I went to the PC rooms at the main core control unit and maxed out their 100mbit connection for several hours downloading.. the next day they had blocked xdcc (=through irc) and FTP downloads because of this, but I never got as much as an email to complain over that. Point being.. just do it, and if you get "caught", probably nothing will happen anyway..

I think the best idea was getting someone to open you a dial up acct. Theres no way in hell they would know that you are using your phone line for dial up, it will just look like phone calls. And you can use dial up from any location Im pretty sure.
