CONGRATULATIONS to Robb who won this contest with 31% of the votes with his article Exploitation and the FTC Theorem. If you haven't read it yet, do it now!
Robb wins his choice of FTR Gear, an FTR Fitted Hat, Custom Forum Title and of course, FTR IMMORTALITY, whatever that means.
In second place was our local shemale anti-pms chardrian, with his article What Makes a Player Top-Tier? He/she wins FTR Gear and Full-Tilt Gear!
Third place was a threesome of third world cheap action where Rage2100 came with his article Poker, the Beautiful Woman on spoonitnow who returned the favor with Preparation in Poker on Chopper who pleasured himself with Pot Equity Edge (LHE). They will all be pimpin' FTR Gear in their next hookup.
But of course, the GRAND PRIZE is split between the last FIVE authors who all received 2% of the votes and each win DINNER WITH BIGRED! kevster, WillburForce, PokerDiva (who?!), Illfavor, and yes, would you believe it, iopq, all will be taken out to a restaurant of their choice and given a complimentary foot massage from our man, bigred. Please contact him to setup a time and place.
Congrats to all and thanks for the quality articles! I will contact all of the winners for your required information. Next time we run this, I swear it will be ran much more smoothly.
----------------
FTR's recent Poker Essay Contest has finally come to a close. (finally)
This thread will be the poll voting system where FTR will decide who wins and who gets dinner with bigred.
DO NOT vote unless you have at least 50 posts.
DO NOT out any of the articles, even if you know who wrote them. We want to keep this anonymous in order to avoid a popularity contest.
Please invest some time in your votes as well, don't just mash buttons.
After this poll runs for 7 days, it will be over and we will announce the winners. Obviously whoever has the most votes will win. However, it is up to management to make a decision if fraud is suspected. Anyone that is found to be making accounts to raise their position will be banned, that ain't cool yo. We don't want another MrBigCity incident.
Vote away, polls close on 10/9 at 2am!
PRIZES
1st - FTR Gear of your choice + Fitted FTR Hat + Custom Forum Title + FTR IMMORTALITY
2nd - FTR Gear of your choice + Full-Tilt Gear of your choice
3rd - FTR Gear of your choice
4th - Dinner with bigred.

idk, if we have like like 30+ votes, which we will, that would be a hassle. won't vote for 1 work?

There's a theorem in mathematical voting theory that goes something like: for any set of constituent preferences, there is an election that can make any of the candidates a winner.

This is hard to vote. We somehow have to arrange the vote so the "winner" gets 4th. Sucks that 4th place gets the best prize.

edit: I just realised that this is poker in the commune - where should it go instead?
I read them all, and decided to grade them. Hopefully nobody gets upset!
don - basic, meh, standard good, but empty. I also disagree with some of the content, and do poorly in DoN tourneys - so i guess the content is correct. 6/10
preparation - the worthwhile content in this article was written by Tommy Angelo, the rest is self-evident once this quote has been read. 3/10
beautiful woman - I like the story. Reading it won't make one much better at poker, but that isn't the point. NH. Polish it a little and submit it to card player or the like 5/10 for making you better at poker, 8/10 for the article
top tier - funny reading this a second time This is a great article. 8/10
getting off the bottom - all good advice. Not written badly. Nothing new. 4/10
pot equity - this sounds like the stuff I was debating with the limit forum back when I was FTR noobie posting in September 2007. http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/...ws-t60040.html I hope everyone debating this concept has read Abdul Jalib's work on this concept.
This article is good, Abdul's is better. Those who aren't familiar with this stuff already will gain a lot from this. It also applies in NLHE, sorta. 7/10
checkraise vs personal attack. I think this very rarely applies in the games that most of us play. The guts of this article is to play with some aggression and to make money. 4/10
exploitation and FTC - very good content, but kinda wordy. Worth the read, with cliff notes this would be great 8/10
practise article - telling people to study. Standard stuff, but good analogy and content 7/10
Player types - I got a bunch out of this. Poker is incredibly situational, and the opponent(s) is a key component of the situation. Add even more info for those of us too lazy to do so ourselves and this becomes great. This article would be a great basis for an FTR discussion thread. I still lament the unfortunate demise of the Poker Strategy (or was that theory?) forum on FTR, whenever the forum rejig happened. If that forum had been well modded (does that verb exist?) and only appropriate content left there, the rest moved to BC etc, I think FTR would have been a better place. 7.5/10
