Greetings, good people of FTR. Welcome to the year 2005.

At the end of January, I will be deleting all forum accounts 1 month or older that have 0 post counts. To be exact, any member that joined on or before 31 December 2004 that has 0 posts will have his/her forum account deleted (not banned).

Those in our Gauntlet or Absolute tourney players lists are exempt.

Many accounts are created by would-be spammers or those that never come back. I am emptying our Memberlist of all such accounts.

I figure that if someone hasn't posted a single message 1 month after creating a forum account, that member falls into this category. If you are a lurker that created an account but never posted, you may continue to browse our forum and create a new account when you're ready to say something. Anyone that posts a solicitation for his first message will immediately be banned (including by IP address, if necessary).

It will be interesting to see what happens to our current count of 1188 registered users. I guesstimate that about 400 accounts will be deleted.

Well funny you ask that...

To many people in the IRC room the "regulars" wanted anyone that is in IRC to be signed up to the forums at least. They dont want lurkers to be in the IRC channel while there giving tips ect.

Yes I can password protect it but thats a hassle for many and not many.

I know that it is less than 5 people. But of course if you delete them then be it. No biggy to me.

Hope this clears that up.

I see. I understand the sentiment, but I don't see how having a forum account and then continuing to just lurk changes anything for the others that are concerned.

The primary reason I make having a forum account mandatory for the league and private tourneys is so we know who is who (FTR name vs poker room name) in the standings, giving them access to the league/tourney info, and (in the case of AP), keeping people that don't even know about FTR out of our tourney group. Hoping that they contribute to the forum is only a small reason.

I would have to agree with your point. Then so be it. Your words stand then on deleting those accounts with no post. I have told them before to post as it will help dont be shy and such.

I can change the mandate of having to be signed up to the forums to be in IRC where anyone is welcome.

This is up to you and higher 'personell.'

At 76 posts, your hardly a lurker. Of course if you wanted to be banned, make fun of Fishstick, i dunno, call him old or something, I'm sure he'll fill out a form for you.

Xianti, Is is possible to send a mass email to all members with the post you made? This will give everyone a fair chance to get back here and contribute.

It is possible, but I'm not going to do it.

If people aren't seeing this thread (remember, I'm only targeting those with NO posts at all), then they aren't frequenting FTR enough. No point in waking up the dead.

I found an Admin Control Panel mod that lets me do mass deleting on multiple members (mua-ha-ha-haaa ) so this will be far less painful now compared to before, when I'd have to view and delete members one at a time.

So here we go...

Starting member total: 1824
Ending member total: 1510

Completed!

Don't typo and delete all accounts with MORE THAN 0 posts.

Becuase then I'd dominate Fnord in post count for the rest of our days...

412 total accounts deleted.

I had guessed about 400 would be deleted. I was pretty close.

There were quite a few that created accounts in 2004, never posted, but were "active" (logged into the forum) in the last month or two.

A registered member of FTR can't view any more forums than an unregistered guest. The only difference is that guests can't post. So why do lurkers create forum accounts if they're not going to post anything?

They don't want to look like they know nothing by asking a question, and they don't want to look like they know nothing by answering a question.

Silly lurkers. We'll make fun of you all the same for NOT posting. So speak up!
I don't know what they have to say
It makes no difference anyway.
Whatever it is...
I'm against it.

Every lurker is allowed the welcome thread.

We should see 400 new welcome threads by tomorrow!

lurkers are only afraid to post because they dont want to look stupid, and maybe they have seen the 2+2 guys bash the newbies for asking silly questions... don't be scared little lurkers, most of us dont bite...

But my question is, why make a forum account if they're not going to post? They can lurk all they want without registering an account.

In 2005, we already have over 400 new accounts that still haven't posted anything.

I'm not mad at these people or anything. I'm just curious why they do that. Are they registering to see if there are any hidden forums that they might get to see only after registering?

Xianti,

They do it so that they can tell which posts are new. If they just access the forum without logging in, everything will appear to be read.

I feel u r talking about me

Reason I didn't post was that I lost my entire bankroll shortly after signing up. I was fed up with poker and swore never to play again.
I think this might be happening to other people as well: they think they are going to be the next Phil Helmuth, but end up as sharkbait and stop playing poker and never post on FTR.
