i just moved into new house. my bedroom is the only one in the house with no 3 prong receptacle. they all have 2. my computer stuff all uses 3. i went to walmart but couldnt find any help there. i think the only way to get my problem fixed is to rewire the receptacles and i cant do that myself. is that right? all help is appreciated TY

there are little do-dads that convert 2 prong to 3 prong. im sure radio shack has some. you might be taking a bit of a risk with increased fire risk and decreased surge protection, but I went 3 years just fine at my old apartment that way.
rewiring sounds too expensive. get the doo-dads.

Your house may been only partially rewired at some point. Workaround is to get a three-prong to two-prong adaptor and plug a powerbar into that, but you will be operating without a ground, obv. Yeah, hire an electrician to rewire, unless you're renting of course.

my gf lives in a somewhat old house with mostly all 2-prong outlets. I wouldn't plug in a bigscreen tv or anything but they use the converter plug things with all of their laptops and stuff and have never had problem.
best buy sells them online i bet they have them in the store.

Multiple ones. All hooked together and strung around your room.

ran into the same problem at my old apartment... wound up buying a few of those doo-dads pictured earlier in thread and it got the job done, although sometimes it was hard keeping them from popping out... forget exactly where I got them.. probably either Walmart or CVS.

3 prongs is way too many prongs
get some cutters and cut one of the prongs off
if you buy 2 doodads, then you will end up needing 3
if you buy 4 doodads, then you will end up needing 5
one pair of cutters is all you need

Yes, Home Depot, Lowes, or Ace Hardware. I used to trim house's and we would just pull the ground prong out of the cord. Get pliers, grab hold of the ground prong and bend it back and forth till you break it off at the plug. Of course we only did this with extension cords. I wouldnt do it with a piece of equipment. I would get the adapter.

yah most houses also have far too few plugs for a modern home. Plugging power strips into power strips cant be good...

The biggest thing the grounding wire does is prevent the case from becoming "hot" if something shorts inside. It protects you from electricity, not your computer from electricity:

If you are worried about the ground and want to duplicate the ground prong with the two prong adapter in the picture, buy a small wire (or use some speaker wire), wrap and electrical tape one end to the circle top of the plug in the picture, and wrap the other end around the screw hole in the middle of the outlet plate. Or, take the screw out of the middle of the wall outlet plate and screw it back in over the circle top of the adapter. You have just duplicated the ground for the third prong.

^^ This will only work if the outlet is grounded. If the outlet is grounded, then you could replace the 2 pronged wall socket with a three pronged wall socket. I have a feeling they only ran two wires from the fusebox. This method would still leave the box "hot".
Aside:
At my parents house one outlet is not grounded, not sure why. It is in combination with a cable outlet. It is getting a small charge from something (not sure what), but is grounded through the cable shield. I was adding a splitter around christmas and everytime I disconnected or reconnected it I got shocked (baby shock).

What does a hardware store in Sweden look like? Is it just one shelf, a cash register, and a hot blonde girl in a bikini?

The strong point in poker is never to lose your temper, either with those you are playing with or, more particularly, with the cards. There is no sympathy in poker. Always keep cool. If you lose your head you will lose all your chips.
