Figured I'd get one started on flicks that are currently playing in theaters. Nothing on cable or DVD. Maybe we can help each other save a couple bucks on crap movies. And I'd like to go by entertainment value only. Don't need any amateur film critics focused on a lack of character arc or something like that. If you had a good time, good enough.

I just saw "Observe and Report" starring Seth Rogan and I rate this a yawner. I actually fell asleep in this thing. Lame humor, really. Save your money and catch it on cable.

I am going to watch a flick tonight. Trying to decide between The Soloist, Fighting, Crank 2 (didn't see Crank), or State of Play. Leaning towards State of Play. If anyone has seen any of these, or if you have seen an entertaining flick lately, lemme know.

Wait on State of Play. Catch this on cable too. It is supposed to be a thriller but is far from thrilling. Was hoping for something like The Insider, but not even close. You know how some movies have a huge build up but let you down with a weak ending? Well this movie didn't even do that. It was humm drum for 110 minutes, then everything becomes clear to the hero and they wrap the shit up in 10 minutes. Crowe just walks through this movie. I give this flick a big BOOOOOOOO!!! Shoulda just watched Crank.

I'ma hafta write a script cos Hollywood is churnin' out a bunch of crap.

I almost did cos it's supposed to be a great film, but it was such a beautiful day and I was in a great mood, I didn't want to ruin it. Homelessness. Mental health issues. That seems to be one of those rainy day downer movies. I'll wait on inclement weather.

Fast and Furious part 7? A sequel has got to be the shiznit for me to see it in the theater. That has got cable written all over it.

For me, seeing a movie in the theater requires thought. I HATE seeing a bad movie. At home you can change the channel, but at the theater you hafta ride it out. Paid all that money on popcorn, soda, and candy, shiiiiiitt. Can't wait for the new Star Trek an Terminator movies. They will be bad ass. At least they better be.

to me theater movies are ones that are profoundly good, or ones that are enhanced by being on the big screen. Fast and Furious seems like one of the later. Ill also see a comedy if Im with a good group of people, cuz that is a lot of fun too. Most anything else, Im happy to wait for.

Getting a refund never x'd my mind. I will try it next time just to see what they say. I going to go all the way with it too, if I have to. I'll demand to speak to the manager!!!

Boost, Reid, u guys are better than me. I see at least 15 a year in the theater. If It is "supposed" to be good I'm there. I am usually satisfied with my choices but my picks have sucked of late. Last House on the Left, phtt. Observe and Report. That is why I am soooo looking forward to Terminator and Star Trek. I'm there opening week for sure.

Vicious circle. Low box office #'s - lower budget for new movies - crappier movies - people don't go see it - lower box office #'s

And I know big budget doesn't = good movie, but it does help.

nibs - rotten tomatoes is your best friend. Don't rely just on the critics, scroll over 'community' and that gives you another measure of how much people like the movie.

If im interested in a movie and it scores over 70 with the critics and 80 with the community I will try to see it. Usually much easier to just stream the movie. I don't feel bad, i blame hollywood for pumping out so much shit that I only enjoy going to theaters a few times a year.

Saw X-Men Origins. I liked it. I thought it was better than the other X-Men movies. I heard some people saying that it didn't hold true to the comic books, but I wouldn't know. I had a good time. I got my money's worth. If you liked the other X-Men flicks, go see this cos you'll love it. Daniel Negreanu was in it for a hot second too. And to think, I almost saw "Obsessed" instead. X-Men Origins was a fun flick.

i liked xmen as well. thought the wolverine/sabertooth rivalry was done pretty well. Some cheesy parts and over-the-top action moments but it was awesome nonetheless.

meh the very beginning of the movie was cool (fighting through like 4 wars) but the part after that was way over the top with their powers.

Star Trek delivered the goods. SFX was good. Interesting storyline. This wasn't the typical prequel that just explains the past. They did a good job creating this story. They took a few liberties with Mr. Spock's character, but only real trekies would mind. Definitely check this one out. Definitely one for the theaters.

I also saw Ghost of Girlfriends past. Snuck into that one. Only movie that was showing around the ending of Trek. This movie was aw'ight. McMatt was guilty of a bit of overacting, but hey, that's the directer's fault. Definitely a date movie, of course. So if you're not trying to get into panties, catch it on cable.

Looks like it is going to be a good summer for flicks. I've added G.I. Joe to my list of must sees. Preview looked good to me.

It's not even a prequel (Star Trek that is), since the effects of what they did there ripple into alternate universes, but hey - it is what it is: entertaining.

Saw angels and demons tonight because i had nothing better to do. Another one of those, "hrm, there be a puzzle, aha, the answer is ____" staring Nicolas Cage, but this time the role of Nicolas Cage is played by Tom Hanks. They used extensive artistic interpretation in pretty much every scene, so having read the book before doesnt really matter. I didnt find it enjoyable though, and felt myself falling asleep through most of it.

I didn't like it either. I thought the ending was terrible. Far fetched and silly imho. I was disappointed considering this Howard/Hanks combo. Turned out to be a typical sequel. Wait for cable.

I also saw Next Day Air. It saw somewhat funny, but far from all that. Glad I didn't pay to see it as I watched a bootleg copy. Wait for cable.

The new Star Trek was one of the worst movies I've seen in a long time... and I've seen Hellraiser 1-6 and Childs Play 1-5 and a bunch of 80's b-movies lately.
It's like they wanted to make a movie that you can comfortably watch on your ipod. It gave me a headache. If I knew that the same idiot who made Cloverfield directed the new Star Treck, I would have never even considered watching this pos movie.

I haven't seen Drag Me To Hell yet... I fear for Sam Raimi. Hopefully he hasn't gone down the same path as Peter Jackson... and he just needed the money and is now making good movies again... but he's really a great director, and it looks promising.

Best one I've seen in a long time, and I've posted it in the other thread:
Let The Right One In
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1139797/
It's a rare occurance that an innovative director, a great writer, and talented actors find themselves in the same place at the same time, but this is one of them.
Also, I share my name with the hero! omgomg

WAT?!! C'mon oskar. I can't argue about what a person likes or dislikes, but "worst movie... in a long time" is pretty harsh.

I usually don't waste my time on horror flicks. The last one I saw in the theater was Dawn of the Dead (2004), and that was the first entertaining one in a long time. When Drag Me To Hell comes out next month, lemme know if it is any good.

saw startrek last night, gotta disagree with oskar. Of course, im biased since Angels and Demons was so terrible that anything will look good. But really, this movie was awesome. Drama, action, awesomeness, etc. Was never bored or anything, loved every second of it. Only thing that's gay is the closet nerds clapping every 20seconds cuz "lol, they made a reference!".

I found the Hangover trailer lately because every few months I'm looking what's new with Zach Galifianakis... Last thing he did was some short Vodka movies, his stand up dvd is pretty much impossible to get in europe - or at least not without paying four times as much with shipping, and then there's the Comedians Of Comedy movie.
Go Zach!

And of course... prolly not playing outside film festivals, but anyway:

Saw Drag Me to Hell yesterday. Not scary at all. The lead actress got on my damned nerves with her acting. I felt like I saw this movie b4. I don't remember the name, but I remember the line "White man from town". Dawn of the Dead (2004) was a much better horror flick. Wait for cable.

Gotta disagree Book. I saw The Hangover yesterday and I was disappointed. I mean it was a good movie, but maybe my expectations were too high. I did not lmao. I barely lol'd. Maybe it was just me as others around me seemed to enjoy it more than I did. Most of the funny stuff was in previews.

Maybe if I hadn't seen all of the funny parts in previews I might have enjoyed The Hangover more. I didn't say it was bad, just didn't live up to the hype imo. When Mike Epps' character was introduced I was expecting comedy not seen in previews, but was let down again. I thought it was gonna be a helluva lot funnier flick.

Saw Drag Me To Hell today. I thought it was great.
If you liked the Evil Dead series, you'll like this too.

I loved Alison Lohman in Where The Truth Lies, and she's great in this one too.

It's a very simple movie. They're not trying to impress the critics or tell a story with any kind of sub texture. It's just a really well made horror movie without any gimmicks, and I like that.

Saw Year One and I loved it. I thought it was very funny. I went with the same group that saw The Hangover. They loved the Hangover while I thought The Hangover was just okay, and they thought Year One sucked . I just chalked it up to them being heathens and not being able to follow the biblical references to get the jokes. One of them actually didn't know about Sodom and Gomorrah. So if you are a drinking, drug abusing, party-all-the-time hedonist that has never touched a bible, and know absolutely nothing about ancient times (like many, many people today), skip this flick. Otherwise, go see this funny movie. I see what Ramis was doing with this movie, but I know it is going to tank in the box office.
