Hey, im about to go back for my second year of college and i was wondering what experience others have had playing during the school year. I made pretty solid money this summer *brag* over 8k. During the summer im able to play basically as much as i want which ends up being about 4 hours a day. However, with the demands of school and being on the ultimate frisbee team, i think i would have about 4 hours a week to play.

My question to FTR, is it worth it to play 4 hours a week? or should i just take out the rest of my BR and earn some interest? Im curious if others found their playing ability diminish considerably when you arent playing 1k hands a day. Im also worried that i wont be focused on poker when i do find time to play because its not nearly a top priority for me. Obviously though, the main incentive to play at school is more money. Thoughts?
ndultimate.

I don't think my playing ability diminishes at all as long as i'm playing a bit every day. I wouldn't take your money out, life without poker sucks.

However, definitely don't play poker over doing needed schoolwork. It bites you in the ass.

I go to Notre Dame. I dont think ill be able to play every day massimo because on days when i have practice ill have barely any free time/ energy left for poker. Im guessing i would probably be able to play maybe 2-3 2 hour sessions a week, if that.

I struggle with the same thing. This fall I'll also be on the school's ultimate team, and my schedule will be rape. I don't play poker during the school year.

If you don't expect your BR to grow, but you want to have some extra spending money, playing 4 hours a week is fine. If you want to actually make "real" money at poker, 4 hours a week won't cut it. Just be realistic about your goals and it won't really matter what you do.

Just play when you can, and don't do it when you're tired. Never feel "pressured" to play to "have to" win, and you'll be fine.

A 4 hour session every week I don't see having any adverse effects. I played back freshman year.

thanks for all the advice. i dont think im going to play during class, might as well just skip the class if it sucks that hard. ill see how playing a few short sessions goes. i think im going to make a rule for myself that i wont put back in anything ive already cashed out. although i think if i go on a significant downswing ill probably just take the rest out instead of dropping stakes.

man i love ultimate frisbee...

one of my former gfs was an american exchange student and she had a group of US friends and we'd hang out and play frisbee 3 times a week. I got pretty good too.

Now I miss it; Melbourne Uni has an ultimate frisbee team but they're shit, and I don't have any other American friends.
