I have no interest in discussing strategy with a protege'. Your job is to remain quiet and listen. I have a very systematic approach that I will share with the right candidate and I promise that I will turn you into a force of nature and show you elements of the game of poker that you never knew existed.

Well not my first thought, but the people who come to troll a post saying no one cares is absolutely comical, and pathetic. Perhaps a new hobby is in order.
Now on to the true tragedy of this all. As rippy has stated above he was out of line in his flames, but the situation never had to reach this level by any means. With growth comes challenges, and its apparent that X, Ty, and E are working to grow FTR, but I feel this was a poorly administered event, which is why this result is as it is. Administration shouldn't be a reaction to a situation, it should be prevention, and this situation could have been prevented, as it’s been building for months.
FTR used to be a fantastic community, though sadly things have turned away from that. Now it seems like an infant 2+2, perhaps that’s unavoidable
Ripptyde is a fantastic poker player. Read that carefully, poker player. When he is on his game, which is becoming more and more frequent, he dominates, his ability to play situational poker is astounding, and not many could hold a candle to him. Yet the caveat to tournament poker stands: If I get called I looked like the biggest doofus in the world, but when he folds I am a genius. I know for a fact that genius is the more common term referenced to Rippy. Tournament poker is an art form, Ripptyde is a fledging Michelangelo, and just making sure he is creating the right hues before he paints his Sistine chapel. He is constantly refining his game, and is becoming more and more consistent (which is apparent). He will create a masterpiece.
This community has suffered a loss; the extent of it won’t be realized for years.

Well Rippy, as controversial as your MTT strategy guide is, it changed my perspective. Up until I read this guide I was just another rock in a rock garden and your situational wisdom and image/positional play suddenly made this game alot more complex to me. Knowing this complexity is the first step towards learning it and mastering it.
Shame things panned out this way but GL to you, congrats on your good year so far, and thanks again for opening my eyes in a murkier area of the game.

Rippy,
I enjoyed reading your thoughts on poker the last few years. There are many good memories including that first FTR Vegas trip. Your strategy is refreshing because it makes people think independently and not over-value the advice in typical books on poker.
The last week has been difficult for all of us, hopefully you will find peace in your future.
Best of luck,
Eric

After reading most of rippys post, I think we have outlined the problem. IRC has taking everything to a whole new level. It's full of assholes and assholes who lie and lie. After a while all the lies become true to the people in IRC, because thats all they see. I'd like to say it's a great that FTR is distancing itself from IRC, because not only has it lost a great member but it's giving FTR a bad name and allowing bad people to create a bad reality.
I will never be in IRC again and because of it, I'm qutting poker and FTR. And on that note, let me be the first to say...

I have been dismayed of late with all of the drama on FTR. This is yet another sad turn of events. I appreciated your MTT guide Rippy and I wish you well....although I doubt you need it. I know more than a few of us have gained a whole new insight from your posts into the nuances of poker.
As for those of us who remain, flaming does little for anyone. Gossip kills. If you are going to be pissed off when someone doesn't pay you back in a timely fashion...you probably shouldn't lend the money in the first place. If a situation doesn't involve you...just stay out of it. Different philosphies and playing styles make a well rounded player and we need more people thinking outside the box not less. I think everyone is an adult here...noone needs to get anyone else's back...and after all of this....can we all just play some poker?

This whole debacle reminds me of an ancient proverb... it might have been plato or aristotole who said:
"Fighting on ye internet is like running in ye special olympiad - even if ye win, ye all look like fucking immature twats who art unable to settlest an argument through intelligent conversation and must resort to playground squabbles"
Ah well. GL Ripptyde

I've read all of the threads and followed this drama as it unfolded. I haven't written a word about it until now for one simple reason.
It amazes me how seriously everyone here has taken this whole thing. You are all aware that all this is at the end of the day is just some internet community on some internet website somewhere out in cyberspace. No one here is curing cancer. Yet everyone reacts to things around here like failure to follow a certain train of thought will result in the end of the world as we know it.
I think this is a great opportunity for everyone here to take a step back and stop taking yourselves so seriously. This little soap opera has been a great microcosm of life. Everyone has their own views on things. Some of which you may agree with and some of which you may not. People get defensive and overreact when attacked. Whether they deserve being attacked or not. Failure to confront someone in a mature, intelligent manner who you feel is straying off the path results in things getting blown out of proportion.
It never had to get this way. The fact that something that in the end is so insignificant to everyone's life has managed to amass such drama is pretty sad.
FTR used to be my little escape to some little internet community on some website somewhere out in cyberspace where I could read up on some insignificant game that I just happened to like and talk to other like-minded people. I wasn't looking to cure cancer. Just have a little fun.
It isn't that way anymore and it's very sad.

If you look at the top players in this game, they are not clones of each other they all have their own Styles and Philosophies on how they like to play the game.
I feel that listening/reading other players views on how they play can only help your game - not by copying the exact way they play but from taking parts of their game into your play.
I feel this is a loss to FTR and I think this is more than likely going to happen again.
Would just like to wish you Ripptyde the best of luck in the future, I for one think you have what it takes to be succesful in this game.

...or perhaps the fact Rippy wanted little more than a monologue had something to do with it. Hand posts almost always consisted of a really weak hand played aggressively getting the best of a poor/weak/tilted player and other assorted chest pounding. Rarely was any context or reads given. As a matter of course, you dismissed reads putting most non-name players in the same bucket and categorically disrespected your opponents.
It would have been a real joy having a two way conversion about what prompts you pick the spots you do. When re-steals works, double/triple barrel bluffs, etc. How often people will go an inch, foot or yard, but won't go a mile and how to pick up on it. You certainly have a wealth to offer in those areas and consistently fell short. In return we could have offered tremendous insight into a more technically sound approach to the game that could have saved you from a lot of spots where you spew money getting the way worst of it. But that never happened because Rippy was too good of a 25NL 6 max and 300NL short-stack hit'n'run player to go there.

In his MTT Strat discussion thread I brought up the controversy it caused at 2+2, not to ridicule him or cast doubt on his strategy, but simply to promote discussion on what works in MTT. I hope my post wasnt taken any other way.

You don't know me Rippy but I've read your guide, and a lot of your posts over the past year or so. Even if I didn't agree with 100% of what was posted, I knew that what I read would help me even if it just helped me understand another school of thought. For that, I am eternally grateful.
I'd also like to take a second to point something out, and I saw this a LOT in the posts/replies in this whole drama. This "community" is very polarized. There are cliques and crews with amazing amounts of arrogance. And, if you aren't part of them, then you are summarily dismissed or ignored. This is very sad because this forum, even taking this into account, is truly something special.
Finally, to Fnord's point of Rippy not wanting "to discuss" his hands, rather he wanted to use FTR as a place to beat his chest about big hands he won: I notice in a lot of replies to Rippy's posts that people were feigning discussion as a method to beat their own chests. Very rarely did a post come across as genuine interest in his thought process(es). This may be due to long standing animosity or past run ins but the fact remains that it was there.
I can't blame Rippy for the way he reacted based on some things I saw. It's really sad that adults can't disagree without it degenerating into what it did.
