junior's a beast, and while I was cheering for the fat man...hunt was just outclassed. In the 3rd round I said to my buddy "damn this round is gunna be boring, junior's got it, won't take any risks" then BAM.

Cain & Junior both seem to be on another level in HW, but I guess we need to see Daniel Cormier vs one of those two next.
  2. #977
Mark's skills are top level, but his size is not. I get afraid every time he fights because he's too short for HW. Guys like Roy Nelson and Pat Barry suffer from the same thing, and they need to move down a weight class. Mark has enough excess fat that he could probably hit 185. Versus JDS, if Mark was the same height and speed (due to lack of fat), I think the outcome would have been different

Anyways, JDS will get the next title shot. Hunt should be matched up with Nelson. Then Werdum gets the title shot after he stomps Nog. Then Overeem if he beats Browne (I think I'm picking against Overeem though). So that means Browne should fight the winner of Hunt vs Nelson for the title shot after Werdum
  3. #978
also titled me the continuous lack of mention of the hunt bigfoot fight, but I guess that's standard when they're trying to hype up both fighters

unlike jds roy surely would just spend the entire time trying to take mr hunt down and crucifixslap him till TKO

Knockout of the night at UFC 161 happened in the floor seating. Fight broke out and some guy got KTFO...
He didnt move for 20+ mins and they took him off on a stretcher. I dont know if the medics told him not to move or if he was out but was not moving for probably 20 mins, then they strapped him to the stretcher and took him away.

Shields needs to find a new hobby, his fight was terrible.

So pumped for this fight. Wish Silva wasn't such a douchebag because it makes me want to hate him instead of seeing how incredible a fighter he is

Lately, he hasn't been one, but it was mostly the Maia fight. Nobody wants to watch clowning around. It seems that he's learned his lesson though, because since then he's gone out guns blazing in every fight

Also he's a douche because of the things he says. He should never call out somebody from a lower weight class (GSP), he shouldn't have tried to avoid Chael, he needs to stop talking about "respect", and whining about injuries looks bad. You can always count on a member of Team Nogueira to claim injury after win, loss, or draw. Some of Silva's rhetoric is understandable strategically and some is lost in translation, but it just rubs me the wrong way. The butthurt over Vitor fighting him was idiotic too.

The only thing he needs to do is fight who the fuck ever Dana puts in front of him instead of bitching and moaning. It's a shame Chael Sonnen doesn't have Silva's skills. Then he'd be the greatest entertainer in world history or something

you heard anderson. He's tired of defending belts. He threw that fight to live like the baller he deserves with his sweet sweet BK and nike manies. struggling is for young men. more proof the ufc is riggededed obv.
  12. #987
eh he's just a moron and a liar. he doesn't listen to the words he says. he'll be fighting a rematch just as easily as retiring

apparently nobody changes. his clowning around maia wasnt fatal, but this one was. for somebody who talks about having so much hespect for heverything, his hubris is hoff the charts
  13. #988
he's just trying to be the entertainer he needs to be to bring home delicious whopper jrs for his family.
  14. #989
wow damn, i wasn't expecting anything that went down tn.

so what happens next. belftort v weidman, or does silva get the insta-rematch? or who else in 185 gets a shot?
  15. #990
i mean wtf, sure silva has been cocky before but that was on a whole new level.

this makes the whole thing even more bizarre

interview from earlier in the week

  18. #993
zero mention of "by ko" in the interview which means article/page tilts the shit out of me, but yeah good link that's out of it
  19. #994
I would pay substantially more than 54.95 to watch silva watching that fight for the first time
  20. #995
I can't believe Silva didn't just pretty much want to lose that fight. By the way here's an interview from before the fight where he says that losing by KO to Weidman would be the "perfect ending" to his career.

    Still doesn't say by KO

Yeah you're right. Also I don't think he said perfect ending to his career, but perfect ending to the fight, lol.

Well fuck apparently I fail at reading threads cuz this exact shit was posted like 3 posts ago. Sorry boys.

TJ Grant out of the title fight at the end of August. So now it's Pettis/Bendo, and we have Swedish Chef/Jones, Hendricks/GSP, and Velasquez/Dos Santos 3 all coming up between August 31 and Dec 31. Possibly Silva/Weidman 2 as well. Not to mention Jung vs. Aldo at the start of August. ONE TIME NO INJURIES THIS FALL PLEASE

It's Browne's fight to lose. He should out-work Overeem and drag him into deep waters and finish him. I feel like Browne will not employ this strategy, however, and will stand and wang. He'll probably still win that though. Overeem just doesn't do well when his opponent is game. For some odd reason

But you never know with Overeem. Honestly I don't care about him anymore because he will never become champ because he loses to Cain and Junior 11/10 times. He thinks he can outsmart and outgun his opponents even when he cant, and that contributes to how he loses
  26. #1001
i like overeem but i don't like overeem, so i want him to win and i don't. but yeah, i feel like he will never stand a chance against junior or cain anyway, but the ufc really wants to give him a shot, so i wonder if he will get one with a win, but maybe he will need another on top of this.

more concerned about sonnen, if he loses i'm going to have a bad weekend.
  27. #1002
    lol overeem.

This is the fight of the year. On Sonnen's side, the hype is manufactured, but Wand does hate him. Sure he might be hyping some because he wants PPV cut and he realizes this is such a huge thing for him, but the dislike Brazilians, especially Wand, have for Sonnen isn't fake

Manufactured controversy is the worst, like Rampage and Rashad was. But what Sonnen did to Anderson to make him wanna knock his head off was fantastic, and now hopefully it will be even better with Wand

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0tg0eSdFcE

Honestly I think I'll pick Wand to win. Sonnen doesn't take a shot too well, and Wand is likely to get a few in
  31. #1006
In fact, if this is a 5 rounder, I'm picking Wand as 3:1 favorite and winning by finish. Chael just doesn't have Leben power to put Wand away and he wont be able to get all the takedowns he wants. The Shogun sub wasn't luck, but it was representative of some Shogun-esque problems that Wand won't make. Wand will stuff some takedowns and will land some bombs that Chael can't recover from

While I think it is likely that Chael gets at least one takedown, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets zero. His style of wrestling is able to be adapted to. It's not like GSP's or Jones' unpredictable ones. Chael wasn't a good fight for Shogun because Shogun loves to not defend aggressive wrestling the way he should. But Wand can, and he might do it so well that the fight ends in the first round

Pettis may just be the most skilled fighter in the UFC. As far as I can tell, his crispness and technique is unmatched. Those kicks and armbar appeared to be effective with ease. No windup, no wasted movement, perfect setup
  40. #1015
you're just biased cos henderson's beard looked like shit
  41. #1016
was so happy. henderson was the most boring fighter in the ufc. now all i need is for hendricks to knock out gsp.

Everything I know about looks/fashion/style/attractiveness comes from watching Arianny and Britney react to each fighter during the weigh ins. They loved Pettis' chiseled kempt self and were disgusted by Bendo's scraggle ballsack beard and bug-eyes
  43. #1018
    Pretty solid system.

You reminded me of my biggest disappointment from that UFC though, namely the new outfits/material Arianny and Britney were wearing
  44. #1019
What? I love it. I'm not much of a ring girl fan, but they looked great in that dark leather or whatever

I dunno if y'all watch The Ultimate Fighter but the first episode of many seasons, the current one included, is 1hr20 of fights rather than the standard episode format of orchestrated drama followed by one single fight. Said first ep aired a couple days ago so might be worth checking out.

it's pretty good. there were a few standout fights, most were decent, a few were laughably boring. i get all sensitive to the people whose backstories they focus on all intensely and then it's like lolz u lost and your whole family watched. NEXT. but im a dork like that, hah.
Free your mind and your ass will follow.
  48. #1023
Team Peggy IMO. A girl that big and athletic could do some serious damage in the shallow WMMA scene. Even to somebody like Ronda in a couple years. Plus she's cute and smart

    Thoughts on the upcoming:

Cain vs JDS III is the biggest fight within a 6 month window of itself, except for Silva/Weidman II for obvious reasons and Pettis/Aldo would be for obvious reasons. I had Cain as a significant favorite in the first two fights, and I stick by that regardless of their outcomes. But because of the beating JDS took in the second fight, I think the third fight becomes much bigger and closer than the previous two. I honestly don't know who I think the favorite is now. JDS most likely learned some hugely valuable lessons, and there's almost no chance fight 3 is a repeat of fight 2. That means it'll be crazy competitive, and a bigger fight than I think it gets credit for

Jones vs Gus is boring because Gus never wins that. He'll try to outsmart, out-athlete, and out-tactician Jones, but will fail. If Jones keeps it on the feet, it will go the distance, but if Jones takes the fight to Gus, clinching and taking him down, he'll get a submission. Jones vs Glover will be even worse. They say Glover has a one-punch KO chance, but he doesn't because of how Jones handles range. Jones kills Glover 11/10 times. The only fight for Jones at LHW is Cormier, but that fatass seems intent on staying at HW. Cormier could clinch and grapple Jones and potentially dominate him from there. Nobody else who can make 205 could.

I have no idea what to think about Silva vs Weidman other than I hoped Weidman would win the first fight just so the rematch could happen. On paper, Silva should be able to win this. He's got the ability while both he and Weidman have shown they're not the best gameplanners. So honestly this boils down to which fighter makes the worst mistake loses. I imagine Silva will come with vengeance, but I really don't know

I've yet to watch Askren fight, but from what I hear, it would be pretty great to see him sign for UFC and wrestlefuck GSP for 5 rounds. Regardless, GSP has his work cut the fuck out for him with Hendricks and Maia, against both of whom I don't think GSP is a big favorite, but still a favorite just because, well, it's GSP. I imagine he'll find a way to beat up Hendricks because he's got exploitable holes. Maia OTOH is a whole different game and Georges' grappling will need to be better than ever before to win

Even though I'm mostly not a fan of champs moving out of their weight class, Pettis vs Aldo needs to happen simply because of what it is. I would argue that's the biggest fight in MMA history, because of the clash of styles and excitement. It would be the two most crisp and dynamic strikers kinda ever in the sport.

I have no opinion of any weight classes lower because I'm a loser with excuses why to not care about them. I blame a perpetually injured champ and a shallow FLW. Also the whole "fewer KOs" thing with all those small bodies hitting big man jaws. So then my interest goes to HW, where KOs are to be expected...

If Cain wins, Werdum should get next; if JDS wins, it should be Cormier (lol at Roy ever beating him). Rothwell vs Bigfoot would be sick. Overeem vs Mir is a no brainer. And Barnett vs Browne.

Also Nick Diaz should come back and fight either Lombard or Lawler. Versus Lombard would be amazing, just think about it: Diaz plodding forward, taunting, spamming; Lombard hulking, trying to land a power shot. It either ends early with Diaz doe-eyed, staring at the lights, or late with Lombard wheezing, blasted by the Stockton Slapper. Diaz vs Lawler II is a great fight too. Good enough to top a card, but don't tell that to people who think the only good fights are ones that satisfy rankings and title hunts
  49. #1024
wuf what you think of Mehmen (v Gracie)
  50. #1025
think sonnen would beat vanderlay, but lose a close one to belfort
  51. #1026
The only thing I know about either of those is that Rolles bombs like a champ. His UFC stint was gross. He has probably changed since though.
  52. #1027
    fight of the fucking year.

    jesus, what a great battle.

i had jones winning barely, but could see it being ruled either way.

however, the 49-46 judge was on crack.
  53. #1028
Yeah probably best LHW bout I've ever seen

Fuck JBJ, was so nice seeing his face get pounded. Wished so hard he lost, even though his winning was a forgone conclusion from the outset. My god, has Gustavsson (sp) made some fans for life.

Any use to a rematch? I think if ever a contender should get a rematch, this is a good example of one, but it seems easy to argue that this was as close a result as this match up could ever have possibly been. Here's to hoping I am wrong, because, now let me reiterate, fuck JBJ.
  54. #1029
We now know everybody who said Jones' physical advantages were significant were right. Gus is great, but he isn't a mile ahead of those he beat like Jones is. I slept on Gus partly because Jones looks far more impressive in wins than Gus does, and even I thought Jones' physical advantages weren't as important for him as Gus showed they were.

Because of the neutralization of his physical advantages, we got to see the holes in Jones' game (I least I did). Put simply, his footwork is crap, he doesn't set up angles, doesn't use combos, and offensive wrestling leaves much to be desired. Apparently, he just sticks to his strengths so much that his weaknesses become even bigger. For example, pre-champ Jones would have finished Gus in the 4th. Gus was on stilts, didn't know where he was at, but because Jones' striking game is mainly about maintaining range, he didn't have the tools to get inside put Gus down

I thought his gameplan would be grinding, putting Gus on the mat, and smashing him with his fantastic GnP. Maybe his wrestling just isn't that good and his coaches thought he wouldn't be able to pull that off, or maybe Jones wanted to stand to prove a point.

Anyways, hoped Gus would get the decision, but maybe it's better he didn't. If he did, the rematch would be immediate, but I think Jones vs Glover looks better now. I see definite ways Glover can beat Jones. Too much a shame Cormier didn't move down because he would beat Jones

That's how I feel about it.

Jones looked far too much like all his playing it safe has caused problems for him. If he stopped fighting like losing is the end of the world, I think he would have crushed
  56. #1031
    well said wuf #fuckJBJ
  57. #1032
What a gamer Gustavsson is though, am I right? Always giving as good as he got, maintaining poise in even the most difficult situations. If jones hadn't have caught him with that annoying spinning elbow bullshit in the 4th round, he would have won the fight for sure.
  58. #1033
Gus vs Machida/Mousasi is where it's at now
  59. #1034
BTW I think I figured out why some GnP fighters, like GSP, can never get finishes

During the Carmont fight, there was a 30-60 second period where the camera was in a position where we could hear everything Carmont and Phillipou did. What I noticed is that Carmont was throwing some bombs with all his might; however, every one of them was accompanied (preceded) by a loud scream. The screams are obviously the whole breathe-out-during-punch-for-power thing that all fighters do, but I don't think they're supposed to be done the way Carmont was doing them. His screams were very audible and came like 0.5 seconds before his punches landed, and thus Phillipou knew when they were coming and could block them

Every shot Carmont threw was heavy, but they didn't connect, and my guess is that his training partner, GSP, does the same thing. He knows he throw heavy shots, but can't seem to get finishes and doesn't understand why because he knows he throws heavy shots. I now think the problem is basic projecting of his strikes. At the usual camera angles, it can easily look like guys on top are not doing much, but whenever the angles are on the floor and close to the fighters, it's clear they're putting all their effort into their shots
  60. #1035
I fucking hate Jon Jones. Glover is such a hilarious matchup, can't help but cheer for him to get hurt so Gus/Jones 2 happens. Christ.

omg dthorneo doesn't take the side opposite of me wtf???!!!

seriously though, fuck jones and the fucking dhalsim he rode in on

In other news, Rousey is a douche. Edmund Tardouchyen was clearly the cunt of the situation, and Honda clearly can't bear the notion that she and her peeps could be wrong. I am sadface because I kinda like Miesha because she's hot and stuff. Also because she seems like a normal person who reacts to situations normally instead of humping asteroid missiles (long live Buscemi!). I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and assume Bryan Douchaway whispers sweet nothings in her ear, making her feel a giddy girl, but be told, dude's a dork. He'll have his hands full when Housey judo chops Mersha Tert yet again, as regretful as that outcome may be.

anyway. thoughts on palhares getting shitcanned? personally I think it's well deserved and the dude doesn't belong anywhere near combat sports til he gets his shit straight. dunno if he's mentally fucked where he just sees red when he's cranking subs or is just a cruel dickhead and tries to hurt guys. either way his track record kind of speaks for itself and as much as I enjoyed watching him heel hook the fuck out of everyone, won't miss him.

It's reasonable to think that Paul Harris let go as soon as he knew the ref was there, but I don't think that matters. He just doesn't have his wits about him in such a way that he is able to acknowledge normal cues. I don't think he is personally, morally at fault, but I think he is a danger for reasons that could be considered mental disability. I think he let go as soon as he saw the ref, but not as soon as the ref tagged his shoulder. Either way, that behavior isn't accepted in any sport, and he shouldn't be allowed to fight.
