Well I am going to the casino tomorrow but I can't play poker. My girlfriend wants to go with me and I told her I wouldn't play any table games because she can't be involved with it, and she'll be bored if I leave her by herself. She definatly isn't going to play poker and lose major money. My question is this: What can I do at the casino to have a good time without losing a bunch of money? I know she'll want to play some slots and that stupid 'wheel of fortune' game. Any suggestion on what games I could play that isn't just completely luck? How are the video poker and video blackjack games? Also what kind of slots would be best (ie. nickel, quarter, dollar...).

Thanks

well you shouldn't exclude yourself from all table games...she can play with you at blackjack, roulette, 3 card poker, all of those. those games don't have too much house edge anyways so you won't go broke...unless you go all in first hand in BJ....

Black jack is best option. You can sit next to her and tell her what to do until she picks up the basic strategy.

Craps is fun too. She can throw the dice for you. However, craps can be a more expensive option.

Wow, craps has some terrible bets, one of the best house games. Stick to BJ.

Pai-gow poker
3 card poker
Let it ride
Black Jack

Maybe find some video poker while she's slotting away.

I'm trying to talk my fiancee into going to foxwoods soon. Her sister lives about 20 minutes away. She visits the sister, I spend the day at the tables. Win/Win

I'm a craps/blackjack/roulette dealer part time at a casino here. When I worked there full time I was a floor supervisor.

Craps is the best game in the house provided you stay away from the sucker bets. Some blackjack games can also be good depending on the number of decks and house rules.

Good bets
Pass/Don't Pass ~ 1.4 % house advantage
Come/Don't Come ~ 1.4 % house advantage
Place bet 6/8 ~ 1.6 % house advantage
Pass/Don't Pass odds - no advantage
Come/Don't Come odds - no advantage

All of the other bets on the craps table are for suckers. This includes place bets on the 5/9,4/10. Certainly never bet any of the prop bets in the center. Those ARE some of the worst bets in the casino.

On the monthly performance report that comes out, Roulette, 3 Card and Let it Ride consistently hold the highest percentage of their cash drops. Craps is high also, with the large number of people making bad bets.

It all comes down to what you like to do. I think craps is much more fun than blackjack, but you don't need as much money to play blackjack. You can play craps with just a pass line bet, but that's not much fun.

Good luck.

Sorry, mate. I and Edwin Silberstang respectfully disagree with you on craps. Simply put, it's the most exhilirating casino game out there and, with proper betting strategy, one can reduce the house advantage to 0.6% to 0.8%. Only blackjack can beat that, but ONLY if you can count cards and if they're using a single deck. Good luck on learning how to do that and finding a casino that still uses single decks for an affordable buy in.

Edwin Silberstang wrote a book called "The Winner's Guide to Casino Gambling" back in 1980. I see that my first wife gave it to me as a present in 1990,... Ah the memories.

Anyhow I've used a couple of his craps strategies, of which there is one in particular which is my favourite, and that involves betting with the shooter. Of course, betting against the shooter is going to decrease the house advantage even more, however, it will also reduce the amount that you can win.

Like all casino games, it will require a run of luck -- a streak -- if you will, but you can make a lot of money in that one streak.

If you're placing all those whack-ass, exotic bets, then yeah, you're better off playing keno, but if you use this system, you'll be in a pretty good position.

If there's any interest, I could write it up and post it.

Let me know.
