I don't envy you, man, trying to moderate this forum.
I know FTR's job isn't to censor people, but you mods should have some discussion about having rules RE: Personal Attacks.
You wanna RAZ someone, fine. If it gets ugly, you're gone.
Just locking the thread doesn't seem to motivate people to think twice before pushing the submit button.

yah, im trying to figure something out. But i've been pretty swamped with school, friends and even trying to play poker to really come up with a good solution. (Beyond Xianti giving me some real powers)

I think it all reflects poorly on FTR.
The point of humor is to barely cross boundaries, but the boundaries keep moving -- racism, sexism, homosexual suggestions, just a riot, I tell you. HAHAHAHA not
And the gang up attacks and the sleezy business arrangements made public for the purpose of reputation assassination. "ewwww, poker is like this?"
If no one with leadership makes clear the standards, then there will be no standards.
If standards aren't clear, then the peons, like myself, won't bother to speak up either.

If we want to cut the racist jokes out, thats fine. I just felt like at FTR we are pretty close, and with like my freinds we can make jokes and everyone knows its jsut all fun and games. No one takes it to heart, everyone really knows slavery is bad, everyone knows the holocaust is not right, ect ect.. But I guess the problem comes when we are all having a good time then someone thats not so close to the group decides to join in. Like for example Ive know ake for quite some time, he makes black / slavery jokes to me, but thats not hte extent of our communication. Then there are people that I see on IRC that I dont really communicate with now think its ok to just throw a racist joke at me everytime the ysee me. With ake Im not just an outlet for racist jokes, for others it seems like now they think its ok so they can jsut spew racist jokes and think they can get away with it.
I dont mean to bring IRC into here, Im just using it as an example. My feelings dont get hurt but I just start to see people differently.
But lets say we make a rule "no more racist jokse" what happens when prozach complains about the emo/self-mutilation jokes? Now do we have to be sensitive to his lil pansy ass? I agree with 'rilla. All kinds of humor is fine, as long as it's obviously in jest.
Some remarks by a lot of people lately (not in this thread) have been spiteful, condescending, and just unpleasant. That is not what FTR is about.

exactly... this is a forum about poker, poker is for adults, not lil kids. "knock knock" and "whyd the chicken cross the road" jokes arent really funny to adults anymore... well sometimes they are but.. you get my point. Some humor is edgy, some humor is blunt, and then theres dwarfmans I-talked-to-a-AIM-bot-and-heres-the-conversation "humor"  . But its all humor and shouldnt be taken too seriously.

yah I guess thats what I was trying to get across.. I sometimes dont feel like being clever so Ill just be really blunt, maybe this comes across as spiteful but its not. Maybe this is the same for others too, but sometimes it just really feels like people mean what they post.

I'm not suggesting flinging poo isn't funny. It is funny. Sometimes. But the largest, busiest forum is filling up with poo, and only seems to be attracting more poo flingers who can't seem to fling poo fast enough to please themselves. I wasn't sure that's what Xanti wanted. I can imagine plenty of people wandering in to FTR, then wandering off again.
I've been pondering lately that the Community should be the last forum on the index. You know, 'cuz poo rolls down hill. Or maybe there could be a duplicate Community area called the Poo Playground.
The racial jokes are bad for business. Beat downs are bad for business. It just has to be a money decision at a certain point. And the "lowest common denominator" for humor is usually too low. It's not about adult vs. 'knock knock' jokes (that's a straw man, Boost). It is that someone needs to decide what is too low, even if it's too high for 23 people on FTR (even if you aren't comfortable with drawing a line, 'Rilla.)
Props for making a little noise Xanti and 'Rilla, locking threads and the like. I notice for every locked thread, another starts up to finish the joke. If you make it known you are serious, 8 of the 23 frantic poo flingers will piss and moan and test you by flinging even more henious poo, so maybe you don't want to go that far. Maybe things are just fine. EasyT brought it up, and no one is really complaining, except for Boost not wanting any more racial jokes, and MannerBoy not wanting any more beat downs, and Xanti having to lock... well, maybe there are some complaints. No big.

So long as we are welcoming to new posters. I think a joke here and there is one thing, but being mean to newbies is what will turn people away.

This is why I almostnever read the commune, I keep myself to the pokerrelated parts of FTR. Commune used to have a friendly atmosphere with lots of fun stuff, now its worse than some dumb tv serial.

well the humour doesnt offend me at all, but at times I find it tasteless and not at all funny. I dont say you should keep yourselves in check because of me, because like I said I almost never read the commune anyway - I'm just trying to give an oppinion on how this all looks to an "outsider".
