Can anyone explain to me why the Steelers are favored every single week, despite the fact that their asses are getting handed to them consistently?

Becuase the Steelers are the most popular football team in the league. They haven't looked bad in any loss outside of really bad turnovers. Falcons game felt like a blowout that just never came around becuase of turnovers. Bengals won on two freak late turnovers that turned immediately into points. The Raiders had under 100 yrds of offense and survived off turnovers. Last week vrs Denver it was the same story, we drove all day and our defense looked good but turnovers broke our backs.
There's no good reason for the Steelers to be favored, good teams don't make the mistakes that they've been making so very frequently. (Red zone failures and turnovers in every way immaginable.)

That makes sense I guess. They showed today and against the Chiefs that they can beat a good team when they're playing well, but a lot of times they make stupid mental mistakes and give away the game.

Also this seems like a good thread to make fun of Michael Vick. I got this picture from the homepage of Atlanta's newspaper.

yes, and outside of that, they've been fine. Not saying they're a good team.

Please, tell me where we got lucky? Palmer breaking his knee. Yes. It's apparent that there offense was fired up and poised to beat us. Indy game? Did we get lucky in how our blitzing schemes worked? Did we get lucky on the last minute fumble by bettis? By the terrible overturned called? Did we get lucky in that they missed a FG to tie. We could only win or tie in regulation, so luck - push. Denver, did we get lucky in our excution of a swarming style defense and an offense based on passing over running? Nope. Superbowl, did we get some calls go our way? Yes. Did we get lucky in having our explosive run offense explode? Nope. Did we get UNlucky in having Roethlisberger float a TD pass that had become standard to him that season and have it turn into an INT long the other way?
The Pats of several years back. Tuck Rule.
DUH we got lucky here and there.
You need luck to win. The Steelers were poised as the best team in the league when they went 15-1 a few years back and did NOT win the superbowl becuase they weren't very hot at the end of the year even though they had beaten undefeated Eagles and undefeated Pats in back to back weeks around weeks 9 and 10 and had a geniunely tough schedule.

rilla,
I find it funny how defensive you get when somebody says that your team got lucky enroute to a superbowl title last year. If it were a fan of any other team, I'm sure you would be quick to point out how much they need to settle down.
And for god's sake, take off those black and gold tinted glasses. wow. Anybody who watched the superbowl last year knows that they were outplayed by the hawks and that the steelers wouldn't have won with even average officiating. They also had a ton of breaks go their way throughout the playoffs (e.g. Palmer's knee that your player 'accidentally' roll onto, lol).
That said, they had quite an impressive stretch at the end of the season to get into the playoffs and an even more impressive one in the playoffs, especially considering how many good teams they beat on the road.

Getting lucky doesn't necessarily mean getting the benefit of bad calls, or having opposing players get injured. It could just mean you were lucky that the opposing team had a bad day. Just because a team outplays another team in one game (or even one series) does not mean they're the better team. See the St. Louis Cardinals who were not even one of the five best teams in baseball this year.
That being said, I think Steelers were the best team in the NFL during the last half of the season and the playoffs.

And this is why I tell people to do as I say, not as I do. It makes me an awesome e-personality.
Besides, we could go into all the different levels of how things need to fall in place. The Steelers put themselves in a position to win the superbowl for the past 5 seasons. I think you can see the analogy pulling itself together, poker-pros.

Even with my black and gold tinted shades on, I was able to list this as the first place where the Steelers got definitively lucky. Though, I do strongly disagree that the Steelers would have lost with even "average" officiating in the Superbowl. And that the Steelers probably win that game around 60% of the time.
