Whew. Also, thank god we didn't trade him to move up to the number one pick to grab Sam Bradford. I would have cried.

Go Packers! My wishlist for the first three rounds:
1. Jerry Hughes; OLB
2. Chris Cook; CB
3. Jared Veldheer, OT
I hear they covet Pouncey and may move up to get him.

If any year was the year to capitalize on having a bazillion draft picks, this was it.
I really thought hte Patriots were going to pick up the next class of awesome this year. Why trade down?

Lions didn't fail in the first round ZOMG!!!! Picking Suh was the most obvious (and best) choice, and trading up for the running back Best was a pretty good move as well. Hopefully they trade up and try to get another LB/OL.

Easy, McDaniels is willing to blow a high pick on a questionable player. I dont think Tebow is going to be a bust, but Im not happy about his prospect of being a Starting QB.

The older I get, the more I start wondering; Just what in the hell is going on here?

Tebow won't be a big hit right away, everyone knows that. But I guarantee if they train him right (and if anyone can, its McDaniels) he'll be one of the best QBs in the NFL in 3-5 years.

you take a QB in the 1st round either on
-potential
-the ability to come in and immediately make your team better
we know it's not the 2nd point, but I question the first as well, the kid has had a ton of time as a QB to work on his motion, learn to play from under center, etc... and he never put an ounce of time into in before he was done at college. That's just starting a little too late in my book.

I don't want to say anything dumb, but how did Brady look when he came out of college? I honestly have no idea what the scouts were saying about him or why he went so low, but obviously McDaniels turned him into a powerhouse, or the Patriots just managed to find a diamond in the rough and McDaniels didn't do shit but show him the ropes. If its the former then Tebow is going to be an amazing quarterback, if its the latter then who knows?
He still has plenty of time to learn the position inside and out, and I'd be surprised if he starts this year except for maybe a couple games during mid/late season (depending on how their playoff outlook is) to get his feet wet for next year. I'm gonna go look up what scouts actually thought of Brady before they drafted him, since I really don't know the history on that.

Oh and I totally realize that Tebow's situation != Tom Brady's.

The difference between the Tebow situation and your description of Brady is that the risk/reward ratio is all out of whack.
Brady was a 5th or 6th round pick. Those picks have like a 15-20% chance of making it on an NFL roster beyond their rookie and sophomore years, if that. And just to make it onto a roster, much less be a star.
If the Patriots were wrong with their assessment on Tom Brady, meh - small risk to try to find a good player.
1st round picks are expected to *produce*. Teams need to hit on these picks often in order to sustain their talent pool. You miss on enough 1st and 2nd round picks without commensurate existing talent or the ability to pick really good people in late rounds...and you end as the Detroit Lions.
The fact that the Broncos traded for Brady Quinn as well just makes the Tebow situation all the more weird.
But hey, the Broncos went 6-0 to start last year when I thought they would go 1-5 or 0-6...so what do I know?
