Idk I didn't think the level of play was all that great but I'm beginning to think that's the deal with CFB this year. Florida, Texas, USC, and other programs seem to be a bit down as they go through the changing of the guard.
My boys are 1-0 though so I'm happy. Here's a lol moment from their win on Saturday.

I sure hope Nebraska's phantom run defense shows up real damn kick. It was fun watching an NU QB making plays again.

Geez Ponder isn't even the best ACC QB. Not sure why Russel Wilson gets no respect besides his team being horrible (I admit it).

How NCAA football manages such fanboys with an obviously broken system is telling. Not for the product they put on the field, but for man's ability to simply love something without limits.
It's easy for me to say that, since VT has removed itself from all championship and heisman discussion by week 1.

Some thoughts:
Fuck Florida State. Also, no way they come in to Norman on Saturday and light up the Sooners. At least they always show up in big games at home. (inb4 blowout loss)
I rly hope Boise chokes and there's no NC controversy at the end of the year. Hard for me to imagine a scenario where Boise is going to get in over a 1-loss major college division champion.
Polls are fucking stupid. OU should clearly be like #19.
Also, fuck Texas, Texas A/M, Oklahoma A/M, Texas Testicles, Baylor, and WHAT did Nebraska do to earn their ranking?!!

It doesn't matter if Boise State goes undefeated or not. They won't play for a NC. It doesn't matter how obviously it is demonstrated that the bowl system is useless, those people in position to make money make so much money that there is no reason to change any of their money-making mechanisms.
Too easy is it to invalidate their strongest talking point: But look how important every game is. None of VT's games are important now. But you could win the ACC! Yeah... exactly. None of VT's games are important now.
So much lose from one loss. So much bitter fills my heart.

The Boise State argument will be interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing how things play out from here. I totally bought into the whole "if they win this game and then win out, they should play for the National Title" bit.....until I watched last night's game. It was a pretty sloppy game on both sides. This one somewhat sloppy win against a decent team (sorry rilla), coupled with a perfect schedule against teams that aren't very good (sorry Oregon State and Utah), should not give them a right to claim a spot in the NC title game over teams that play in killer conferences. I guess if they go out and beat every team's ass from here on out--then we've got a discussion, but we'll argue over that when/if that time comes.

I think the bigger argument will be Kellen Moore for Heisman, that's going to ruffle a lot of feathers.

The most tilting thing about the "every game matters" people is EVERY GAME WOULD STILL MATTER. Playoff or no, it's still a must win for Boise last night, and more generically you're not going to see many 2 loss teams get into a playoff.
Sure there will be 1 loss teams that get in, but that's already true many years in the NC game. And every undefeated major college team would lose their automatic entry status (if you will) as soon as they got their first loss. No one would be like meh no worries, we'll get in for sure with 1 loss.
As rilla points out many teams' seasons are 'over' as soon as they get loss 1, playoff would make all the 1 loss teams play much harder and imo create more meaningful late season games. Let's say OSU beats Miami next week - now VT Miami becomes a playoff survival game instead of lame ACC battle no one cares about outside those schools.

Week 1!
It's week 1 and you're already fully capable of deciding how Boise State's season meaningfully plays out.
All you need to know about Boise State is how they performed in this game and that, in the following weeks, they hit W after W.
Maybe VT gets the coaching and experience it needs to not blow it's own foot off in the first quarter (seriously, 17 points in the first Q off 33 yards of offense from BS) and then this Week 1 (Week 1, by the way) victory will look better and then we can talk about how BS gets bucked from the NC but that's the beauty of college football.
So obviously useless... to those of us shunned from the fun of dreaming of a NC for at least two weeks.

You're good at words that agree with my position and I appreciate that.
Also, why wouldn't you build towards deeply meaningful late season games when teams have 6 or 7 weeks experience and a well-defined sense of what's on the line? The best reason I can think of is this:
YouTube - Neil deGrasse Tyson on Science Fiction Movies
A huge aside but it boils down to this - NDT watches the Titanic and notices, to him, a huge mistake that ruins the entire experience. When he brings it up to the director of the Titantic his response is - "My movie grossed GROSS BILLIONS of dollars, how much more do you think it would earn if I fixed the sky?"
No one will fix college football and I'm not going to stop watching VT football and that stalemate angers me.

I watched a lot of Iowa football last year. The defense was sick. But all the love Ricky Stanzi got for his "4th quarter heroics" was largely unwarranted, imo. If he had simply played to an average ability during the first 3 quarters of most games (instead of sucking balls) his team wouldn't be in a position of needing some "gutsy/moxie"-action in the final minutes. And when some one plays 3 shitty quarters, and 1 good quarter, most evidence suggests [1] that the player happened to get lucky in the fourth and not just "making plays when plays need to be made, etc."

I have an equal amount of angst about the Heisman as 'rilla does about the NC game.
They should be legally barred from using the phrase "the best player in college football" and use the more accurate description of "QB/RB on BCS team that loses 1 or 0 games during the regular season that never has a statistically bad game or at least not as statistically bad as any other QB/RB on a different BCS team that loses 1 or 0 games during the regular season".
Many other exclusions could be considered here. Such as, "If there happens to be an undefeated team, the best QB/RB on this team can have somewhere around 90% of the statistics as the best QB/RB on a 1 loss team."
/rant for now, too much irl.

It's very difficult to decide which team I dislike more... I guess I'll go with Miami, as I have to begin some type of cathartic way of removing my disdain for my team's future conference. But can I just say here a few times before the 2011 season starts....
