anyone else disappointed in their respective teams?

if GB wins out, will Favre finally retire? how is that dude still walking/speaking with all the beatings he has taken over the years?

The Chiefs won today but still managed to look absolutely terrible. Our offense is awful. Our passing attack is atrocious, so bad that teams can get away with putting eight men in the box on just about every play. That spells doom for Larry Johnson. To top it off our offensive line is downright offensive, so even if teams didn't load up on us he'd still struggle for yards.

It was physically painful and a great test of endurance/strength/patience to be able to get through the game today. I long for the days of Dick Vermiel when we used to run/pass the ball down people's throats. I don't think I'll ever get used to these 13-10 "shootouts" like we saw today.

If we didn't have a really good defense we'd go 0-16 for sure.

    that made me laugh.

to think, we'd both take Sobbin' Dick back in a NY minute. wow, what a nickname i just gave him.

you mean TG isnt your savior anymore?
how bout Martyball, would you like to see him back?

all thoughts to ponder when you look at the last 8ish years, imo.

everybody does. he was super consistent. a pain in the ass, with all the choking in big games, but got you to the postseason EVERY Fing year.

not to change subjects, but here in STL baseball country, they are calling for TLR's head. i keep calling radio stations asking, "who are you going to replace him with? the KC Chiefs thought the same thing when ditching Marty...time for change...and havent sniffed the playoffs consistently since."

one of the great demises of a franchise in all of sports, imo.

i dont follow football as much as i used to (Rams have always sucked, except for 3 years where they almost made me a fan), but i USED to be a huge KC fan...until Marty left.

i'm a baseball guy. but, i cant wait for hockey to start up. anyone in STL will tell you the Blues have figured out how to market a team/franchise. very impressive. the whole city is buzzing about hockey...weird for any US city thats not named Detroit.

oh, btw, isnt CrazyRobert (WildBobAA) from D-town? i think he has the Lion as his av. WOW, never thought Mad Mike would make as quick a turnaround as he has.

dont make him your head coach, though, hes a friggin psycho. keep him where he belongs...focused solely on your offense.

TLR might actually choose to leave. He may end up in Philly, which would be a GREAT place for him as that team has all of the pieces together to start a run of many years in the playoffs. The Cards look like they're going to drop off even more next year as everyone is getting older, so it'd be a good time for him to step away... (btw, Pujols is 2-3 years older than everyone says he is)

The Royals are getting a new manager next year, I'm curious as to who that's going to be. With all of our young talent we've got a chance to contend for a Playoff spot in two or three years...

Football...People used to bitch about Marty ball here all the time but we freaking won 10+ games a year for a long while. We never got it quite done in the Playoffs, coming up just short a few times, but at least we had a chance......now the Playoffs are a pipe dream.

Hockey....I'll never understand it. They're trying to get the NHL to come to Kansas City as we're about to open up a new state of the art arena (Sprint Center). Hockey won't EVER catch on here. It's such a niche sport here (and around the country) that it wouldn't make sense to do so, as the fan base would be quite small. I'm hoping we get the NBA but even that wouldn't survive here, I don't think, but we'll see....

i hate to say it, but i dont think KC or STL can support the NBA, we're just not big enough. and, with STL, we already have hockey...same season basically; therefore, competition for the corporate dollar. and, youre right about a "niche sport," but it has been successful in STL in the past, which is why it is quickly reviving. i'm not kidding, though, the marketing team/ownership for the Blues could buy any team and quickly make it the favorite sport in the town. they have done one hell of a job in less than 18 months. but, you'd have to be here...i was hoping another STL boy would jump in here to second this thought because its just not believable to anyone not living locally.

football, you guys had the longest active "going to the playoffs" streak going under Marty. something like 10 years in a row. only the Blues had a longer one. they had not missed the playoffs...ever...until last year. granted, its hockey where everyone makes the postseason, which is why, imo, Marty's streak was more impressive...2nd only to the Braves.

TLR, philly would be a nice fit for the guy. he likes to "cherry pick" his spots. ever notice that one? he only plays for winning clubs. the cards really worry me. i've never sipped the Kool-Aid. they SUCK. and its only getting worse. they need 4 new starters minimum, 2 outfielders, a 3rd baseman, SS, 2nd baseman...and a little more versatility on the bench. the way their medical staff handles injured players is a complete joke (see Mulder, Carpenter, Rolen, Mulder again, Kennedy, Edmonds, Duncan, Kinney, Izzy, Spezio, Ankiel (yrs past), etc, and thats only THIS year, and i'm sure i left some out.) when you have your "star" players seeking 2nd opinions...its bad. if i see more than 4 players return to the club, imo, they've regressed. but, believe me, they will try to resign all of them..for the hometown discount. they cant trade Encarnacion or Rolen due to salaries.

but that said, would you leave Pujols in his prime? i dont care how old he is. i know you guys over there think he's Julio Franco's little brother...meaning he's approaching 50, too, but who knows, and who cares? he's the best hitter in baseball, and will be for another 5-7 years, provided he can stay healthy...a big question right now, especially with our training staff. they are still pinch hitting with him...to try and get him 100 RBIs to preserve his "streak." that makes no sense to me given the lack of pennant race. i say shelf him and get him right for next year. he's only our FRANCHISE.

but, nah, lets get him a meaningless streak and FUCK HIM OVER for the future. we dont need the 100 Million anyway...we sold all those urinals out of the old Busch Stadium.

these owners have their heads so far up their asses, it makes me crazy. and what's worse? they have everyone else in this town drinking the Budweiser, too.

    sorry to rant.

hey, did you see the story about Arod to the Cubs....WITH OWNERSHIP? thats some crazy shit, too.

We have KU, MU, and KSU basketball to keep us going during the winter months here in Kansas City. People follow their respective programs like they're religions, true die-hard fans. That's one of the reasons the NBA would never work here.

Another reason is because it's the freaking NBA. People around here LOVE their college basketball because of the atmosphere, because you're rooting for YOUR team, YOUR players, and these players are college kids (mostly) playing for the love of the game. The NBA? Besides the huge stars of the game there really isn't much else there.

The NBA marketed itself that way, so unless you have that one HUGE star on your team the NBA won't be much fun to watch (I believe the NBA pales in comparison to college hoops). With the exception of a few fun teams to watch (ie: Suns, Mavericks, maybe a few others), the NBA sucks as an overall product. People here would initially buy into it for the first few years, but once the newness wore off people really wouldn't care.

Hockey won't ever be big here because it's such a niche sport. Our youth hockey programs are growing by the day, but we've still got a LOT of catching up to do. In St. Louis hockey is huge, and has been for a long, long time....We aren't there now and probably never will be.

Baseball and football are by far the most popular sports in the area, no matter if you're talking about the games being played at a high-school, college, or professional level. Those fan bases are already built in and have been passed on from generation to generation.......we don't have that with hockey/basketball.

The economics of it all say that the NBA/NHL won't work here either. People can go to the Royals games buying CHEAP tickets. Chiefs tickets are unbelievably high, but there's only eight games (plus two preseason games), so people are more willing to devote chunks of their paychecks to go to those games. People are absolutely NOT going to pay high prices for NBA/NHL games (41 games a year plus preseason/playoffs). These are just a few of the reasons (there are lots more) why people won't welcome the NBA/NHL with open arms...

As far as LaRussa goes....yeah, I guess when you're that good you can pick and choose where you want to work. No shame in that. Find a good team that is *this* close to getting over the hump that needs a coach and he's your guy.

Side-story on Pujols: I played college baseball with a few of his former teammates from Maple Woods Community College. They would ask him all the time if he was *really* nineteen years old. He would look at them and dead-pan with a Spanish accent, "Dat's what my birth certificate say." I'd say he's a good 2-3 years older than what he actually says. He should have another 3-4 GREAT seasons ahead of him and then he'll probably have an early decline....

    GO COLTS!!!!

PS I think TLR has worn out his welcome too. This team is past its prime and needs some young talent in key areas....and yes, I am a huge Cards fan!!

hey, there are lots of colts fans. sorry about leaving out "the perfect team with the perfect QB that you cant find a fault to bitch about." ( huge manning fan here. left them out because whats there to bitch about? and i started bitching about the chiefs and rams...lol)

pujols, i agree, is a tad older...i was just giving you some shit. sure fire hall of famer now...that 30 other teams missed however, TLR was trying to find every excuse in the book to keep him off the big club a few years back, though. if it werent for the need for a 3B that season (2000?), he may have been traded because of TLR's distaste for youth. the only reason Ankiel is here is because he hit a shitload of bombs in AAA and warranted a Sept call-up. but, with no options left, they knew he had to stay. again, dumbasses.

i know ROYALS tix are super cheap. a few years back in college some of us went over to KC from Lawrence (gee, guess what college hoops program i love?) and had tix one hour before the game right behind home plate front row of the upper deck for $9!! 9 Fing dollars!! (boy, those steps are steep up there with a brew, or 5, in you.)

and as for hoops, dude, how could you mention KSU? huggybear scared me for a bit, but we all know who will take the Big12 north every year w/o a fight. and as for MU, they are a football program, still trying to defect to the Big 10, and no longer a hoops threat. maybe anderson can get them competitive, but they will never be a consistent national power with the focus squarely on football. i, too, will take college hoops over the NBA any day of the week.

and for NFL, i am a closet Cowboy fan. always will be, just not very vocal since Jerry bought the team. that dude has no class whatsoever. i kind of lay dormant until he sells or dies. so, when i turn 60, maybe i can root for them again. (i am 33).

ps i would consider the Vikes, Bears, Pack, Colts, Rams, Chiefs, Lions, Titans, all midwest teams.

    LOL just messing witcha...

Believe me everyone bitched about Manning not winning the big one for a LOOOOONG time. And the defense? Hardly perfect....we gripe about that these days!!!

Colts are kinda flying under the radar this year, what with the Pats destroying everyone and Chicago's QB deficiencies...

PS You guys can't bitch toooooo much about no offense...I sat through a 1-15 Colts season in 1991 where they set an NFL record for fewest points and various other states of ineptitude LOL!!

no doubt. the Jim Mora years.........."PLAYOFFS? PLAYOFFS?" to quote that silly Coors Light commercial.

they are under the radar because of the Pats and Brady's 18 illegitimate kids, but whatever...lol.

as for Manning not winning the Big One, its just like the cardinals here in STL getting ready to "mount a comeback" 10 different times during the season. I REFUSE TO DRINK THE KOOL-AID!

you all knew it was a matter of time before Peyton got his. there's only one QB who never won the big one.....Marino. and it wasnt because he choked. it was because the Dolphins never surrounded him with the tools. they had some close calls, but Miami never made sure they had a realistic shot, imo.

at least the Colts kept their nucleus together long enough to give Peyton the shots he needed. however, i still dont see how you let "the Edge" get away...or Marshall Faulk for that matter...lol. (thanks for that one, btw) not that Addai is chopped liver.

    george and cardsman,

    get this...

    this just baffles me...

please tell me WHY pujols played last night? he has a horrible calf problem. so bad he cant run...he limps to first base. yet, he started the game last night!! TLR says, "he said he could play at 60-70 percent. he has shown me he can play under control. thats good enough for me." ...WHAT????!!!! the powers that be have fallen off their rockers.

    and to pile on...

yesterday molina goes under the knife! for torn cartilage in his right knee. and they knew about it for 6 WEEKS!! whaaaaaaa? a real head-scratcher. isnt a knee pretty important to a catcher?

and get this...if they knew about it for 6 weeks, that means they knew in August, right? then, why did molina catch a night game (Sept 14), both games of the double-header (Sept 15) and the sunday night game (Sept 16)? 4 games in 3 days...and he caught ALL 36 innings? i'm sorry, were we in a playoff race? NO>>>we were 7 games out.

way to protect your investments, dumbasses. i'm actually almost lost for words.

I mean they have a shot about ever year, but if they got Julian back then they would be expected to win the whole thing like in 1997. How did we lose with Jacque Vaughn, Paul Pierece, Scot Pollard, and Raef LaFrentz?

i'm such a good KU fan, i cant remember if #22 went to the NBA. i think he may have withdrawn from the draft, but i dont pay attention after april. march madness takes me right into baseball.

interesting website, if you are a fan. KUSports.com

check it out. you can follow everything.

and, we didnt win in '97 because Roy choked off the big games. i love the man to death, even though he defected back to the mother ship, but he never did well in big games...at KU. his teams peaked in the conference tourneys.

i'm trying to take a guess at SFASU, but cant come up with anything other than.........._ _ _ State University. hook me up with some knowledge.

shows how much i know...lol (see signature)

i need the season to get rolling before i am confident in player's numbers i guess.

although i can tell you that Jared Hasse #23, Jacque Vaughn #11, Billy Thomas #12, OsterFAG #00, Steve Woodberry #23, and my boy Scotty Novosel was #43. not that you know scotty, he was my roommate for a short time and walked on the squad.

oh and Patrick Richey, Richard Scott, Adonis Jordan are also names you may not know from Roy's early days...depending on how much a historian/old fart you are...lol.

its been awhile since i've been to school, i guess. wow, my bones are starting to creak.........i gotta sit down. but, hey, i just got an idea...lets see if it takes in another thread.

manning? who was that? never heard of him before. did he do anything in the nba? lol. to date myself, i had a couple friends that were on campus when they won. and consequently had to shut school down the following day.

if you went there, i still dont know, they literally had tapped kegs across the street from Strong Hall!!! back before it went "dry campus."

how bout Turgeon....the wichita state coach? he was manning's point guard.
