Well as the title suggests im gonna be out of action for a while...
Built my bankroll up nicely from $100 to around £250 (playing $6.50 turbos) and my girlfriend argued with me until I cashed out ALL OF IT to put towards our holiday in July... I swear thats the last time I tell her how well i'm doing!!
I could probably get the odd bit of money for a few games together but im not gonna bother playing without a good bankroll... whats the point?
So pissed off as that $250 was a sweet little roll and I was plodding away fine...
This happened a few weeks ago thats why I havent been as active as usual...
back to reading I guess.... F*CK!!!

I used to be honest and then like you .... My Wife was like , well we could use that money for this that or the other. Think about if you were up over 10K. I pay her 300 a month just to be quiet. My BR is like my secret stash that I built. She doesnt have to know anything.
When I am away on business, if there is a Casino there and I have the amount of buy ins I need for the level of playin online, I will dig in my BR a little and replace it with my winnings from the casino and pocket the rest ( should I win ) . I know in the infamous BR management thread it says not to take from your BR. It doesnt say when you should stop though and start taking from it for leisurely stuff or to pay rent etc.
I dont think this means your done with Poker. You should take some time off and study the game without playing. Then drop a deposit of 15 buyins and continue grinding up. If your a decent player, it wont take you long to get back to where you left off.
PS: I dont beleive its being dishonest. I beleive that the initial amount is all that matters. Give that initial buy in back and tell her you are playing on other peoples money next time if you want to be honest.

My professional advice would be to dump her and focus on poker.

This argument will never end, ever. Your destined to never have a roll, and never enjoy poker. This is no joke. Straighten her out or quit poker, it's the only option.
I'm serious. Next time it'll be for bills, or a car payment, or whatever. Not because you need it, because you have it.

I'm sure she's good to you and all, but IMO she should be more understanding and not so narrow minded about it. A good gf maybe won't understand, but she'll respect your decision to not spend your bankroll. A significant other really has no business telling you what to do with your money in this situation IMO, especially when gambling hasn't been a problem and isn't proving to be a harmful addiction.

Random Hero,
Just out of curiosity, how many hours did you put in/tables at a time to make that kind of profit in 6.50's?

Can someone tell me why there are so many girls who don't understand bankroll, poker for fun, etc? wtf? It's not a difficult concept to understand. Maybe you need smarter girlfriends.

Agreed. My wife is smarter than I am and coincidentally is fine with my poker as long as I don't talk her ear off about it. She's particularly fine about it since my $2k cash out.

I made this in about 3 or 4 weeks... was on a gvery good run!! Couldnt help but finish ITM!! I dont play every day so dont know exactly howmany hours I put in a week...
wasn't entirely $6.50's. I won 3 $16's which helped massively.

At least from my experience at home games and girlfriends/wives/signifact others - I think most woman in general are less of a risk-takers with money then men, and tend to look at the losing side more then the winning side.
With my wife she does not like poker mainly because our weekly home games run to about 3-4 AM, and she hates that I am gone until those hours on a weekly basis, and in addition most of my friends play poker, so when we meet on social occasions pokler is a big discussion issue

idk, you tell us! I'll never understand women. You (and by you i mean most girls in general, although you are definitely not like most girls if you play poker and post on a poker forum) just think differently than guys for the most part.

My wife hates it...hates that I spend all day at the computer at work and then dissapear into the computer room at home at 8 o clock...and has the same argument that it's gambling and a bad habit even though I've never actually invested any serious money...In all honesty there are probably better things that I could be doing with my time but its really so much fun

I guess I'm the lucky one. My wife never says a word to me no matter how much I play, how many hours, nothing. She goes to the casino with me occasionally and just is cool about it in general. She never asks too much about where the roll is out. It helps that occasionally I will spring for some little gift for her. It also helps that I have a reason for playing....paying for my daughter's tuition. The ex-wife has her in private school .
I'm sure things would change if I were a bigger player, and thousands were out on the table at one time. She would likely get nervous. She gets nervous when I push a stack of chips to the middle of the table....LOL. Only thing she has ever said though, is that she doesn't want me to do this as my full time job (which I wouldn't because I don't think I am good enough yet, plus I like stability and a poker income isn't steady/stable).
I my wife........

Yeah your right I just got back up and running and as i'd won a nice little stack in a short time I told her and that turned out to be stupid!!
She doesnt take an interest any other time so I wont be telling her of my progress from now on!!
I'm sure I can get $100 (15 buy ins) in maybe a month or so. So hopefully i'll be back in no time!! (im trying to be positive baout it lol)

I like the idea this is only thing she'll ever try to control about you!
break it off, and it isn't close. Relationships are hard enough without starting off lying about something this trivial. If you can't come to an understanding about 100 bucks it's doomed either way.

But it would only be luying if she asked about it and I didnt tell her.
She doesnt mind that I play and put a few bucks on here and there. If we didnt have a holiday to pay for she wouldnt have told me to cash out. FACT.

Get her a play money account and play with her for a while. Hopefully she won't consider that gambling and will arrive at her own enjoyment for the game.
Also see if you can get her to watch a few poker shows. Tell her about which are the 'good guys' and 'bad guys'. Treat the poker pros like celeberities / tv stars and it can become like a 'soap'. She will hate this guy, his wife is cute, Gus is nice etc etc. It helps!
It worked a treat with my wife. She's a great girl - but it is much easier that she now understands BR management and loves beating up on me in play money sit n gos. She also loves the size of my roll!

I can't believe how many people are telling him to break it off because she views poker as gambling. So does everyone who doesn't study poker. Just tell her it's play money from now on when you play. And if she doesn't like you playing in general, it's more because you're spending time on the computer instead of with her. Your schedules can't be perfectly aligned, so just play when she's out at work or whatever.
