That's right. Yours truly will be facing off against the Evil BoostnSlide in a 3(??) game series of chess. Sure, 2 or 4 would probably make more sense, but I volunteered to take black 2 of the 3 games. I'm expecting a 3-0 slaughter in my favor. After this, I will again be king of FTR.

make predictions below, it goes down Sunday evening.

winning chess will make you king of the nerds at best. I don't know about the forums but I'm surely the king of the community forum. Stop your dreams of glory Lukie, it's not going to happen.

Patriots dumped a whole wad of cash on the Giants just before the game. It was rigged!

Maybe the best way to find out would be to paste the game notation into this thread. I'm good but not great, and the way I put it to boost was that I'm a level above the player who claims he can beat bad players but isn't that good. In other words, I know some opening theory, I can play some of the more basic endgames correctly, and I have a good feel for what I'm trying to do in a game.

giants predicted the win.. strahan, plax, and one of the non-football front office guys.

I do remember brady laughing at plax's prediction of the score. He said something like '14? what is plaxico going to be playing defence? *laughs*, then proceeded to lose 17-14.

he threatened to kill me so we aren't going to count that one. Game 1 still scheduled for Sunday.

ha

I'm not really into the sicilian tbh. I can play the dragon alright but the najdorf never appealed to me, probably because everybody else plays it and I play like everybody else at poker, so I try to throw in slightly more obscure stuff when I play chess.

ok ive been drinking tonight but i played a few games on instantchess.com to get ready for ja. i don't really play chess online, maybe played 5-6 games ever, but i felt like i played this one really well.

i'm black.

1. e4 d6 2. d4 Nf6 3. Nc3 g6 4. Bg5 c6. Qd2 b5 6. Bd3 h6 7. Be3 Ng4 8. Nf3 Nxe3 9. fxe3 Bg7 10. Ne2 a5 11. 0-0 0-0 12.a4 b4 13. c3 bxc3 14. bxc3 Nd7 15. Qc2 Nb6 16. Rab1 Rb8 17. Rb2 Qc7 18. Rfb1 e5 19. Rb3 Be6 20. c4 Nd7 21. h3 Rxb3 22. Rxb3 Rb8 23. Rxb8+ Nxb8 24. c5 dxc5 25. Qxc5 Nd7 26. Qc3 Qb6 27. Kf1 exd4 28. exd4 c5 29. Bb5 cxd4 30. Nexd4 Nc5 31. Qc2 Bc8 32. e5 Bb7 33. Bc4 Ne4 34. Qb3 Qxb3 35. Nxb3

while i was recording this i was going out for the night so I x'd out of the window, but i eventually grinded down to a 1 pawn advantage with winning king position 0-1. i basically used this game b/c i felt it was one of the better games ive ever played.

pirc is my specialty, which has a lot of similarities to the dragon, especially against the Austrian attack if the game goes 6. dxc5 Qa5

Im pretty sure lukie is more than a level above me, however Im pretty confident that Ill take atleast one game despite the disadvantage.

Facts: I know no openings other than things Ive sort of reasoned to be good use of moves. Ive read very minimal strategy that has helped me to make these conclusions, and Im sure everyone will laugh at my opening.

That being said, I do encourage people to put some money on this as it makes it more interesting, but clearly an even line is not appropriate. I am the dog so dont feel shy about saying so(not that anyone has..)

I really couldnt say, is it for me to win 1 or 3 or to win the series? 2.5:1 is probably fair for me to win 1 of 3 games, for me to win 2 of 3 Id think youd be getting the short end of the stick.

lukie: Where are we doing this? Ive played on yahoo chess, and I think thats it. They have a semi decent interface in which the game could be observed by anyone who cares to look. Also I have never played timed matches so I would like to request that we dont. This clearly works to my advantage but its not like you dont have ground to give..

doesn't really matter to me tbh. Me and gayb played a game or 2 on yahoo a while back, and I've played a couple games on instantchess (no membership though, so we wouldnt be able to find each other). I'm cool with yahoo, and time doesn't matter a whole lot to me. I'd prefer timed though just b/c 3 untimed matches could take a long time, even if we both have the intent to play fairly quick. If you really don't want to though, thats cool.

I just never have. I dont plan to sit there and study the board for an hour before I make a move, but I think you have a better grasp of the game and recognize "board texture" and can act much faster where as I need a second to take it in at certain points. I want to get in 3 games and in a reasonable amount of time, however I think if its timed it will simply be a slaughter.

So yah I think I gain a significant advantage from having it untimed. Overall you still have a sizable edge I would think but it will help to even the playing field just a bit.

thats fine

basically ive only played for like 2 months (i also played very very sparingly when i was younger but basically just knew the rules and not much more) but i think i've picked it up real quick. In all honesty, outside of the pirc which i've studied a little bit, I really don't know many openings either past moves 3 or 4 i'd say. i usually just reason through them as well, especially as white.

So what is ur FTR-guy's ELO-rating? I had 1650 in classic chess and about 2000 in blitz/lightening on internet.
